Torres
We should do everything in our power to snap this 22 year old up, he can be the difference between us coming 2nd and us finishing as champions next year. We need this signing and that is it, we are the only real challangers to chelski next season. His talent is incredible and a striker that can score 30 goals a season is what we need.

Agreed and that's the main problem here. If were the finished article then fine, we buy one or two players a season but right now we probably need 2-3 main players and 2-3 back up players so maybe it is out of reach. Damn shame though.

How much do you think we could get him for?
If we could get him for £20million or less, then buy Bellamy for £6mil and Pennant for £3mil i would be happy with that.
Overall cost about £30million

Re: Torres
I just don't think a player like Torres is a necessity and, given where we are in terms of the development of the team under Rafa, I don't see the need to spend such a large amount of money on a showpiece striker when there are other areas of the team that need strengthening. I doubt we have £25 million to spend, let alone £30 million.

If we had a striker of that quality though mate I'd have guessed we would have ran Chelsea close last season and done better in the CL.

Correct Rash, in a season or two we will be in a position to buy one world class player. Raffa has had to overhaul most of the squad and that is hard and expensive. It may not be the Raffa goes but we would be in a position, I think to do so, if he wanted.

You can see there is pottential with the right midfield behind him to do so, he has great skill and power on the pitch, and if we get rid of cisse thats 7-8 million to go towards him. it is a possible move IMO,

Re: Torres
The Evening News last week ran an story about Utd putting in a £25m bid for him. OK, may just have been the usual World Cup paer talk, but I think that's the figure that would start the negotiations. Also, if it looked like he might be coming to an English club, what are the odds on Chelsea offloading Crespo and possibly Drogba to put a bid in? How much then? £30m?
No way can we spend that kind of money on him. Fuck all to do with being "small time", skint or any of that crap either - we just don't have unlimited funds and have other areas of the team that we need to improve as well. You can't have everything.

Apart from Forlan who wasn't suited to the Premiership I think Fergie has a good record with strikers - McClair, Nistellroy, Yorke, Cole, Cantona etc.

I get what you mean though, Torres may well be a good dribbler, athletic, strong and can run out wide but he is no Nistellroy in terms of scoring. They have Rooney to do the rest - I think they would get in eachothers way too. However, I just have a feeling Fergie would get the best out of Torres in the end.
