Taylor on Crouch

Offal
Quote:
Former England manager Graham Taylor is a big admirer of Peter Crouch and has backed the Liverpool striker to make a big impression at the World Cup.
Taylor managed Crouch at Aston Villa and said he felt a huge sense of pride when the Reds star scored a hat-trick against Jamaica in England's 6-0 friendly win on Saturday.

The former England boss also believes the move to Liverpool has helped Crouch improve as a player and feels he will get even better.

"Peter needed Liverpool to buy him to give him the credibility," said Taylor.

"The poor lad has had the the mickey taken out of him because of his height for years. He never gets stick over his football, it's all because of his size and build. He's not the best header of a ball because he never has to jump.

"But he's unplayable if he jumps in front of you. Peter can get flick-ons and that's why Michael Owen needs him.

"If World Cup defenders are not careful they will give away free-kicks against Peter. And with one of the best dead ball players in the business in David Beckham, it could prove one of the most effective weapons in Germany.

"It gives me a great deal of pride to see Crouchy doing so well. He has taken time out to thank me. I saw Liverpool play at Villa last season and he took time out to come and see me.

"In an age when players have reputations for being selfish, he stands out from the crowd."
Quality comments, Taylor, Rafa, Erricson, Redknapp, and allardyce have all raved over Crouch, funny though that the negative comments come from the likes of Andy Grey, Shearer, Alan Hanson - football men that have never managed a team.

Re: Taylor on Crouch

Martin Jol was bigging up Crouch recently too. Said that even when Rooney is fit, England should play Owen, Rooney and Crouch.

That's actually a really good point.

It could also be noted that weak pundits like the ones mentioned above never dare say anything except what they feel is the general public opinion.

Re: Taylor on Crouch

While we're talking about pundits, on TV the other day during the England - Jamaica game, Lawro suggested Jamaica needed a defensive coach.

Newcastle needed one once didnt they? But they got Lawro instead.

Do you know, I was disgusted at some of the comments Lawro and Motson hurled at the Jamaican team, "I'm not sure they have a defence do they mark?" "No I don't think they do, its a kickaround in the park, a training session"

Arseholes, thats the kind of attitude that makes the football world hate us, won the bloody thing once in forty years, sixty-six sixty-six sixty-six!

Piss off...

Except for Quinn who always seems to give Crouch loads of praise.
