Reds agree deal to sign Argentina ace

Liverpool have agreed a deal for Argentina midfielder Leandro Daniel Somoza who will sign for a fee in the region of £2million.
The highly-rated midfielder currently plays his football with Argentine outfit Velez Sarsfield but will arrive at Anfield in time for the start of next season.
Rafael Benitez has been tracking the 24-year-old for some time and believes he will add more quality to his midfield as the Reds boss looks to try and close the gap on Chelsea next season.

The arrival of Somoza could spell the end of Dietmar Hamann who could now be forced to look for another club when the transfer window opens.

Somoza will be the first of many arrivals at Anfield this summer as Benitez looks to strengthen all areas of his squad.

If we have signed him and Hamann's place in the squad is under threat (and I hope not) does this mean he's another defensive midfielder?

Would rather have an attacking one...

I have no idea who he is. If he plays central midfield, he must be good for Rafa to spend in that area. We are well stocked as it is.

Well playing in the league he does i would expect him to be a tough tackling midfielder.

Doesnt Hamann have a clause in his contract that if he plays so many games he gets offered a new contract. Would be a shame for Didi to leave as hes been a great servant to the club.

Hamann could stay. Gerrard on the right or behind the frontman and then Xabi, Momo, Didi and this lad for the 2 centre midfield positions. Makes sense to me

Agreed. I see this as more of an indication of where Gerrard will play next season. Rafa always plays with two defensive midfielders. The fact that one of them is the best passer in the world is immaterial to that statement.

If this is true and I hope it is as I always like to see new players improve the squad how will he get a work permit if he's never played for the Argies? Then poor Gonzo can't get one and he's obviously a cracking little player.
