STATEMENT FROM THE HILLSBOROUGH JUSTICE CAMPAIGN - 12th April 2006

STATEMENT FROM THE HILLSBOROUGH JUSTICE CAMPAIGN

12th April 2006

The Hillsborough Justice Campaign has delayed releasing any statement regarding Anne Williams’ departure from the group. The primary reason for this has been to give Anne time and space to consider carefully her proposed course of action and, of course, to reconsider her decision to resign.

From the outset of Anne’s involvement in the HJC we have supported her financially, morally and emotionally in her fight for justice for her son Kevin. We have never withdrawn that support nor do we intend to in the future. The major objective of the HJC remains the pursuit of Justice and Anne Williams has a legitimate right to be part of our campaign to achieve that goal.

We are deeply saddened that Anne has chosen to leave the group and are at a loss to understand why she has chosen to embark on a new campaign. We firmly believe that it is truth and unity that provide the strength necessary for any successful campaign. Divisions and, those who nurture such divisions, play into the hands of those who seek to prevent truth and justice.

Anne’s legal case, whilst supported by the HJC, was by no means the only campaigning work of the group. In fact the HJC had already been formed and was firmly established prior to Anne becoming a member. The group has assisted numerous families and survivors in many different ways. To give one example: we secured the services of lawyers to act for survivors in professional negligence cases – a good number of which have had successful outcomes.

We cannot understand why Anne has decided to concentrate her energies into fundraising for a new campaign when there is already in existence an organisation which has the financial means to support her in that fight (and which to date has done just that). Nevertheless, we have to accept that it is Anne’s prerogative to pursue the course of action that she considers most appropriate for herself. We wish her every success in her individual endeavour.

Meanwhile, the HJC will continue to campaign for the dead and survivors of Hillsborough. We believe that we have a responsibility to our wider membership all of whom seek:

Your continued support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Shame to see the Hillsborough campaign splinter yet further; sadly divided does normally result in failure.

Does anyone know why Anne resigned? Ego's or ideology?

I wonder what the real difference between HJC and HFSG is.

Not speaking on anyone's behalf here, but my understanding is that the HJC wish to continue fighting for justice. The HFSG want to accept things and try and get on with life although they still expect certain things to be respected by the club and the league etc.

Perhaps someone will clarify in more detail.

That's not clear yet. Perhaps her's is more of a personal battle in many ways?

I thought it was interesting last year that the HJC donated £500 to the Michael Shields Appeal. Where was the mandate to do that?

Re: STATEMENT FROM THE HILLSBOROUGH JUSTICE CAMPAIGN - 12th April 2006

The number one thing here is Anne has every right to pursue the course of action she feels suits her best, thats her choice and she should be allowed to do what she wants to do without being cornered into a course of action she doesnt want be that via the new campaign or the HJC

Every person who lost loved ones must be able to deal with there grief in the way they see fit.

We all want justice and I truly admire those dedicated to that cause and I hope one day they will get justice. Personally I dont believe they will ever get the Justice there looking for and that is truly tragic and i pray for the day when im proved wrong.

One thing I dont understand though is what is the point of issuing this statment?

RIP & JUSTICE FOR THE 96
