Michael Ballack and link players

Ballack is openly coverted by Mourinho, maybe a replacement for Lampard who apparently wants to go to Barcelona. I can't believe Barca want that fat pirce of shit after he was so crap against them.

Back to Ballack - What a mercenary cunt if he goes there when he has the choice of Europe's elite. We should definitely be in for a link player of that class but I hear his wage demands are £150K making any 4 year deal worth £31M which is too much. Only Chelsea can afford that for a 29 year old.

A link player is defintely something we need, it takes the pressure of our centre midfielders who are having to do everything and also allows a creative genius to play behind the front man. Rafa did this at Valencia with Aimar and tried it with Gerrard last season.

I'd love us to buy a link player, a goal scorer and a right winger this summer. Fabio Aurelo (sp?) seems to be coming in at left back the Brazilian - a mate for Ronaldo? One can only dream...

Re: Michael Ballack and link players

Priority is a striker and a right winger - a link player is a luxury and until the first 2 i mentioned are signed then im not bothered about a link player.

Re: Michael Ballack and link players

I think that Rafa would ideally play that system, one up, one jsut behind and two pacy attacking goal scoring wingers. The problem comes when finding these players, how many really top quality players out there are there who fit the role behind the striker, who are good enough for us, sensibly priced and that their club will be willing to let go?

I think there are players out there that can be bought. E.g. Owen, Joaquin, Pennant, and Aimar are all players who have in the past wanted to join us. Rafa's biggest problem is not finding the players who want to join and boy did we miss a trick by not signing major players when we were newly crowned European Champions - his problem will be finding the cash.

you have just proved my point, Pennant is a decent player, and will be available at a reasonable price, but Aimar will not be cheap, if indeed Valancia are willing to sell, from what i have seen he has played really well this season, Joaquin again, not cheap and Owen probably £12m, so for Aimar, Owne and Joaquin you are looking for at least £35m by my reckoning. Sure Rafa would like them and they would definitely make a difference, but is that sort of money available?

We sell Cisse to Lyon for 20 million and Morientes to newly promoted Leeds for 15 million. Bingo.

Isn't being "openly coverted" an oxymoron?

Re: Michael Ballack and link players

Owen and Pennant - £20 million for the pair of them + we then sell on Cisse and Morientes for £10 million so net spend of £10 million would leave a few bob for another player or two.

with ballack going to chelsea the man to miss his place in the team will probably be Gudjohnsen, who would be the perfect link player for us

Depends what way you look at it. In terms of being an 'elite' European club, they aren't as big as Barca, Real, Milan, Juve, Inter etc. Hell, they aren't even as big as Bayern, never mind us or the mancs.

They do have money though.

I know, I was just poking Rash with a stick.

It does depend on the definition, but if you win the Premiership two years on the bounce you're the best team in England, which automatically puts you in the elite of Europe by very definition.

Add to that unlimited cash, a huge and very talented squad jam-packed with famous internationals and a manager who has won everything.

They have a long way to go to join the elite in my eyes. You have to win the CL for starters. Most top players wouldn't choose Chelsea over Barca, Juve

G8 don't agree. Or is it G12 now? Either way Chelsea aren't in it.

Look, I fucking despise Chelsea. I always have. But lots of top players would choose them - and have - because they have cash and momentum and fame and they have every chance of dominating football for a long, long time.

That hurt me to type that.
