Jermaine Defoe

I know the strikers debate has been done to death, but just wondered what the consensus was regarding Jermaine Defoe, who's still struggling to get into the Spurs starting line up through no fault of his own.

I think Rafa will opt for Defoe as his "Premiership" striker and a fee of £10m has been mentioned. It was also reported in certain quarters back in the January transfer window that Rafa tried to sign him, but Spurs weren't willing to do business at that time.

What's the consensus with Defoe? Does everyone think he is good enough for LFC and would that sort of fee represent good business for us?

For all you Owen cravers, that topic has been done to death now and it's unlikely to happen

Definitely good enough but doesn't score as many as Owen.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

Not the solution at all, in my opinion. Even Spurs are looking for a goalscorer, and they have Defoe.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

I'm not sure why Jol doesn't rate him, because he's always looked very good to me. I reckon he would be within our budget, and Rafa could probably get the best out of him, so why not? He's got to be on the list.

I'd take him.
Would sore more than any of our current strikers.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

The reason Defoe is not in the Tottenham team is that he isn't good enough. I don't care who Rafa buys as long as they are good enough to be certs when his best eleven is picked. That is the only way to improve. Over the last 15 years we have bought far too many players who were no better than what we already had. Money should be spent on whatever the manager believes is the two weakest positions in the team. Spending £10m on Defoe would be a big mistake.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

I like him but he's not what we need I'm afraid. His goalscoring record and inability to win a regular place at spurs speak for themselves. He would be a luxury we can't afford.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

I think defoe is worth having a look at, pace is so important and currently we have fuck all. Also, the reason he doesnt get so many starts for spurs is that Jol doesnt want two short arses together (defoe and keane). Dont rate mido either.

However, I would think a swap deal with cisse is the best way to target defoe, keep the coffers for a true big money deal (simao).

Re: Jermaine Defoe

Can't really be certain to be honest. £10m is a lot of money for him becuase rightly or wrongly I believe him to be a little limited in areas of skill Rafa requires. For example being able to create time on the ball for himself, and bring midfielders into striking positions. I just don't think he has those qualities but I may be wrong.

Re: Jermaine Defoe

the main reason he doesn't get in the team at Spurs is his attitude. He's apparently a selfish little prick, who although being far and away their best natural finisher they have, a) doesn't have too much else to his game, and b) is an arrogant moaning twat who throws water bottles around when he's substituted, on one occasion right at Martin Jol. I actually have this on good authoritah for once. He's well on his way out of Tottenham, and wont be missed from what I've been told.
