We are watching Granquist

According to Expressen, a Swedish daily, Liverpool have been monitoring Andreas Granquist, centre back from Helsingborg. He was voted Player of the Year by the fans last year. He is 6'3" and despite being only 20 he is very assured. I think he is an excellent player and would not cost that much. No idea how much, a couple of million maybe. Personally I would love for us to buy him because then Liverpool would get more coverage over here!

He says his favourite team is United so we are allowed to thump him if he does the boyhood fan bit if he signs.

Sounds like a very good young player but would prefer someone more experienced.Still he does sound really promising.

I agree. I am not convinced by Whitbread, i would rather have this lad in and us go after another experienced one.

Some Swedish bloke on another forum said he has been pants this season. I'd rather give the chance to Whitbread.

If we do buy him, are you saying you'd trust "some Swedish bloke on another forum" over our scouting team? I no nothing about him so I can't judge but your logic system is a joke.

I know what you mean but our scouting system it not flawless. How many young players have we bought from abroad that have gone on to make it big time? I can't think of a single one, Djimi Traore? Pongolle? Hardly huge successes. With all kids its a risk unless they are of huge talent and even then (Le Tallec) it may not come off as we would like.

Ah, sorry, I must be mistaken, if some swedish bloke says it. PSV, Bayern and Newcastle have all scouted him and we have been for a while. And I have seen him play and he was very good. Perhaps he is a bitter Malmö FF fan? they are very tunnel visioned you know.

Out of interest, what has Whitbread done wrong?? (Asked as one who remembers Glen Hysen with a heavy heart)

His son is an ace player you know, played a blinder last night in the Stockholm derby. I have to admit, I am basing my Whitbread opinion on limited material. But this lad is good and wouldn't cost much. Whitbread confuses me cos he looks like Hyypia on telly, that'll be why.

Lol!! There IS a similarity. I just think sometimes we overlook players with prospects. I can remember quite a few reds who would have had Carragher out the team a few years back.

The Carragher of 2000 and earlier is not a patch on Carragher of 2005. People forget that. Its like talking of Lampard - well in 2000 the lad genuinely shit but not now!!

Thats fair enough. Defenders develop a bit slower too in general.

Yeah I booed Carra 5 years ago when he was shit, now I'm first to start up "we all dream of a team carraghers". Funny how things work out isn't it?

I quite liked Glen Hysen. Can't beat premature greying, gives the opposition a false sense of security. We should have signed Ravenelli too. And Julian Gray.

Did Benitez not overhaul the scouting network last summer due to the fact that he thought it was in a disgraceful state?

Re: We are watching Granquist

I live in Helsingborg and watches HelsingborgsIF's games now and then. Last year Granquist was awsome as centre back, but this year he hasn't been as good as last year. This year he's often been forced to play as a defensive midfilder in a 4-2-3-1 formation due to injuries and suspensions, and I belive that is waste of talent.

Glenn Hysen still deserves to be shot in the face. As a youngster growing up in birmingham my dad would only take me to the odd game a couple of times a season, i remember my 3rd game when i was 10 or 11 being crystal palace at home.
It rained like a bastard and the car broke down about 45 mins walk away from the ground (my dad has since told me that he didnt think it would make it that far but kept going because i was so excited) when we finally got to the game we lost 2-1 and glenn hysen scored an og, we then got pissed wet walking back to the car and had to wait an hour for the AA to turn up, to tow us back to warringotn and then home to birmingham.

I have never forgiven glenn hysen for that shitty day.
