Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I very much doubt it.
Unsure how I would feel about it anyway. He might be a complete weapon but he ALWAYS scores goals. If he was cheap as chips then I don't think it would be a bad buy, I just think their are better and more reliable candidates to look at first.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I very much doubt Rafa has given up on Cisse this early.....signing Anelka would suggest one of the current two is defo on his way, there would be no chance of keeping the 3 of them happy.

But we've lost Owen and Pongo seems to want to leave so there could be something in it. I'd be suprised if we don't sign a striker in January- we're being continually linked with Mista after all.

I agree we need another striker but not another who 'expects' to be first choice every game......

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I always thought he looked very comfortable in the second striker role towards the end of the 2002 campaign. He would complement Cisse.
I would snap him up.

Cisse and Anelka are less likely to work together than Owen & Fowler or even Rushie & Aldo.........

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I'd love it if Anelka came back to liverpool. He did nothing wrong when he was here last time, and has generally behaved well at city so why is he still tarnished with a reputation earned years ago. I believe he has matured since then, and he is a world class player. Anyone remember that display against Newcastle at anfield?? He is a proven goalscorer, and would improve the side. I don't care that he would expect to be in the team every week.... wouldn't Morientes, or any good striker that we sign exept the same.
To move on we need to sign proven class. Anelka = proven class.
All the same, I can't see a deal happening.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
city wanted £10M+ in the summer when one of the top french clubs (can't remember which one) enquired about him. i don't see why they'd accept significantly less than that now, unless they're in proper leeds type sh1t. even if they are, a player of anelka's quality is one of the ones they need to keep hold of.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
Does anyone else not think it ironic that Anelka is in the high goal scorers of the Premiership in a shit strugling side like City.
I'd have him back in a shot.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I believe Anelka is very much the same type of striker as Cisse og Baros. I would be surprised if Benitez would want to buy him.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
did nothing wrong here tho, and his brothers stayed away. got shite on by houllier for no real reason.
would have him back today. if cisse and baros dont like it then they know where the door is, or they can knuckle down.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I'd have him back, because we shouldn't have got rid of him in the first place. I think he'd give us exactly what we need up front - guile, skill and good positioning. And the goals would help!

I just think that with the strikers we have allready got we could perhaps do better in bringing in a more powerful striker/target man. That would bring something new to the strike force.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
see what you mean, he is similar to the other two.
but will the other two be here for much longer after the end of this season?
Baros seemingly wants barca, and cisse is still unknown really. we shall see!!

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
Yeah, he did nothing wrong here and should have been kept on, but thath was then and this is now. Not the sort of player we need although I agree he is top quality. I'd sooner have Morientes who'll be cheaper, and would compliment our existing striker better.

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
On the surface Anelka would appear to be very similar to Cisse. But his game is far more rounded. His touch is far superior as his passing and his awareness. Anelka can hold the ball up, pick a ball up from deep and exploit the flanks. If you remember he was rarely used as an out and out striker by Houllier. I still believe he would bring something to our side that we don't already have.
I would prefer Morientes but I don't expect Benitez to look at Anelka anyway. I wouldn't be completely suprised if one or both of Baros and Cisse exit Anfield next summer. And I wouldn't really care either as I trust the managers judgement.- It feels great saying that!

Re: RAOTL: Anelka on his way back?
I wouldn't say that Fowler and Owen and Rush and Aldrige were similar strikers, Their styles were just incompatible. I don't believe Cisse and Anelka would be as Anelka has the instict and ability to drop off the main striker- just look at the number of assists he has for city.
