Gerrard in the Echo....

Exclusive interview with him in the Echo today. Not a single mention of Chelsea or Liverpool. Do you really think that Chris Bascombe is going to interview him and not want to ask him about all this stuff?

Gerrard won't talk about Liverpool, only England. Fact. I wonder why.

Re: Gerrard in the Echo....

Bascombe did ask him and was told he didn't want to talk about it until Liverpool bought the players he desires is my guess. Pressure on the board and all that.

Re: Gerrard in the Echo....

Dave, we will have to see when he gets back then - needless to say he would never be welcome back in Liverpool if he moved - he needs to think about that too. It could also be all bollox and if it is a lot of people will look very silly.

I am a realist and and a pessimist and from what I have heard and what I have read - it looks like he is putting pressure on the board and nothing else. Logic suggest he will not move - and never to Chelsea.

Re: Gerrard in the Echo....

He also spoke about Scouse Pride today regarding Wayne Rooney! Clutching at straws I know but its something.

"There's a lot of Scouse pride from my point of view as well. I know Wayne's a bluenose, but it's always great to see Scousers doing well for their country, no matter who they play for."

If its true that he has made his mind up without even listening to the club and new managers plans then he is letting himself and the fans down big time!

Well what is the truth then tom, if you know something then post it, or is this some big secret that only you and a couple of people are privvy to.

I seriously doubt any1 really knows what is happening, more likely people have heared something second hand and are adding to it to make it sound more dramatic then it really was.

But Gerrard must be aware of the speculation yet says nothing. The man is the captain of Liverpool, he owes the fans a response.

Nope.

And it's not for me to say who has told who. It's Dave's contact, not mine. I know nothing 1st hand. I only know what Dave has told me. And Dave doesn't lie. Why would he ffs?
What I do know, though, is who has told him and that's as good as concrete for me.
It was also good enough for me when the same guy said Benitez was coming long before anyone esle had even suggested it. So I had a big bet on that. (thanks for that one, Dave my man!)
And it's definitely as solid on this.

I just wish people would stop saying, "he'd never go to Chelsea". Blah, blah.

He would and very well might.

Re: Gerrard in the Echo....

Fair enuff Tom, i'm not having a go at any1 like. It's just that if he left I would be totally gutted I really am distraut (spelling) at the thought of him leaving us .

For what it's worth here is what I have heard, this was from my cousin (a v/well known DJ in Liverpool) and he is mates with one of stevie's relatives and he told me that when asked Stevie's relative said that he want's to stay at the club but only if they can show him that they are prepared to spend monies on bringing in Proven/Quality players.
and being who I am I would rather belive this than think that he may leave the club.

Re: Gerrard in the Echo....

We all want the same thing -- the best for Liverpool football club. That is a fully committed Gerrard at the heart of the midfield for years to come. I hope that can still be achieved, because I too would be very upset if Stevie left.

Maybe even more so than when Titi became surplus to requirements!!!!!!

My view is that he is waiting to see what develops. He has already said we need to buy 3/4 top players and Parry agrees. If Benitez buys them he'll stay, if not he'll go. That's why he doesn't want to discuss it now. Early August will be decision time.

apparently all england players have been told not to talk about their clubs and they can only talk about england until they return from portugal.

All well and good, but Gerrard has a good relationship with Bascombe, and only had to say to him off the record that he is staying. Wouldn't need any quotes, but it would allow the Echo to get the message out. That's all that is needed, and you'd have to be pretty stupid to assume that Bascombe hasn't tried to get him to do just that. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't.

The Echo's stance is that there's a very good chance he's going, and they've alluded to the 'Lampard factor' on several occasions. There's a reason for that. It's because Gerrard won't say anything to put the speculation to bed, and no doubt they have other sources who have informed them what's going on. Players or staff at the club probably, as I'm sure they know exactly what's going on.

The Echo does not indulge in unfounded speculation, and Bascombe's record on these things speaks for itself. If the Echo are concerned about it, then so should all of us be.

And as for all this "he's waiting to see what the board do"???? Bollocks. He's told people that he's going to Chelsea. That's not keeping his options open, it's called wanting to leave.

If people don't want to believe that, fine, but I am 100% certain that he has told people he's going. Obviously I'm not going to say where that come from, as it would drop people in it, but the source is rock solid.

The situation as it stands is not good. It's gone so far that it's almost as though he's a Chelsea player now, and that Liverpool have to try and persuade him to join us. Unless Benitez can give him the hard sell and persuade him to change his mind, he's gone, as his head is at the Bridge already.

But frankly, I'm sick of talking about him now. If he wants to go to Chelsea, he can fucking go. If he changes his mind and stays, fine. But either way, I'll never look at him the same way again. If it was any other player I could sort of understand it. But this is the captain of the club, and someone who we thought cared about the club as much as we do.
