Does this mean Bridge is available?
Maybe nonsense, maybe true, but Chelsea are fucking nuts if they spend that sort of money on a 31 year old. I like him but only on a free transfer. If they go through with this, we should take Wayne Bridge off their hands. He's loads better than what we've got.
Chelsea line up Roberto Carlos
Chelsea prepare to splash £20m on Roberto Carlos, doubling his wages to £120,000 a week

Still looking dazed after that advert
Real Madrid director of football Jorge Valdano claims left-back Roberto Carlos will complete a £20m move to Chelsea in the next few days.
The 31-year-old Brazilian was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge several months ago but it is reported he will now take up an offer from the Blues which will double his salary to around £120,000 a week.
With new manager Jose Antonio Camacho installed at the Bernabeu in place of Carlos Queiroz, it may be time for Carlos, and possibly some of Madrid's other star names, to move on following a disastrous finish to the season which saw Real slip to five straight defeats.
Valdano told Spanish daily sports paper AS: "We're waiting for a fax from Chelsea confirming they will pay the £20m fee in order to complete the deal."
Carlos himself has sent out mixed messages over the weekend.
He told BBC Radio Brazil: "I'm leaving Real Madrid, I'm going."
But after Madrid's 4-1 defeat by Real Sociedad he was adamant he wanted to stay at Real, saying: "I want to stay at Real Madrid and I think my situation will be sorted out in the next 20 days.
"I am certain I will be here next season. I need a rest now, because I have had a lot of years playing a lot of games.
"I will go home to Brazil on Tuesday, my lawyer will call the club and he will sort things out."

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
If I was in charge at Chelsea i'd play Bridge ahead of him anyway. Carlos has got to be one of the most over-rated players i've ever seen.

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
THAT free kick in "le tournoi" in 98 and a few other belters and...that's about it really. £20 mil for that? Abramovich must be nuts to splash that out on a "mini me" lookalike.
Over-rated? Didn't even rate him in the first place. Give me Gary Ablett any day, over him.

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
From that free kick in Le Tournoi till the 2002 World Cup he never scored another. He has a worse dead ball record than Beckhams. Chelsea are welcome to him, I'm convinced they'll self destruct soon. Bridge would be a class addition to our side but can we afford to spend what we'll need to to prisehim away?

Fuck Bridge. What about the fact that Ranieri is yet to be sacked, maybe Mouriniho's arrival at the Gay Village is far from certain.
Hip Hip José ;-)

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
Roberto Carlos is one of the best players of his generation, an absolutely amazing player still at 31. Look at his medal collection. Don't even insult him by comapring him to Wayne Bridge, another cunt overated by the cockney media cos he's English. (just like Lampard, scores a few goals and 1 good season and they talk like he's zidane). Be gutted if he joins Chelsea, hate them cockney cunts.

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
If the fee quoted, and the prospective wages are both true, then if Chelsea DID sign Stevie G (AND GOD FORBID THAT THAT SHOULD HAPPEN!!!!) we should get about 100 million for him and they would have to pay him about £300,000 a week!
20 mill for a 31 year old and 120,000 a week!!!
I fucking despair!

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
I saw highlights of Real Madrid's final game of the season (lost 4-1 against Sociedad). it was very noticable how many of Sociedad's attacks were down the side that Carlos should have been defending - it just seemed he was out of position all the time.

Re: Does this mean Bridge is available?
Roberto Carlos is an excellent player and Wayne Bridge is no better than Riise. We should be looking to strengthen other areas before we even contemplate buying a left back that we don't need.

i reckon they'd go bankrupt in no time at all. i was listening to a thing on the radio the other week explaining about all the money abramovich is putting in. up to now he's put nothing in at all except buy the club abd debts. everything else has been financed by loans from another company of his. Obviously as he now 100% owns chelsea, chelsea's debt are his, but i'm sure he must have limited liability so he could walk away, but it has cost him next to nothing.
