Return of the King?!?!?!

Its feasible with the speculation about Ged leaving and Liverpool supposedly offering Kenny a director of football role, that he may well end up back in the managerial hot seat and would in my opinion be in correlation to the British players we have been linked with, barton and smith which i think points to a UK manager,Id prefer MON as i have always said but Id have to say id be fucking made up to see kenny back again.

I know he fucked up in the later transfers of his reign (hutchison and Redknapp were two of his last, not that much of a fuck up id say) and he might be out of touch with european football but if he gets us playing again let them worry about us.

Id be delighted, dont worry about it boys the king might be coming back and for me that is enough to be over the moon so enjoy.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

If we go for Kenny then i really will give up.

Talk about a club living on past glories!

I'd actually rather keep ged as i can see kenny being nothing other than a disaster.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

He hasn't managed for a decade. Therefore the decison is based on misty memories of when we were good. In my opinion it would be a terrible decision when there are so many decent managers out there.

It would be another 3 wasted years.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

The other week I was thinking about it a lot and was all for it (mainly due to watching my old videos of how good we were when he was in charge), but now my attitude has changed. The saying is 'never go back' I believe and i cant really think of many situations where a manager has returned to a club and has been successful.

Having said that at least we know he'd release the shackles from the players and he knows what this club is about. We might even be able to start singing 'a team that plays the liverpool way....' again.

It really is a difficult choice. There are others i'd take over him but i'd much rather have Kenny there than Gh.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

point taken id be happy if he came back as ive said but the board feel they need to get fans onside, which will cloud moores judgement, the only man for me is MON.

Im sure he could do it,but curbs? Tosh? there are plenty out there inc.hitzfeld

have to wait and see, they will want it all sorted out soon so he can get on with it if not ged has one more year

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

Maybe the king is on his way back, but again he has not managed over a decade!! I read somewhere that he could be invited back as a PR man - a link between the fans and the board. I don't think that would be bad. What d'ya reckon?

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

It's not that I think O'Neill is a bad manager, he clearly isn't. But he isn't a good coach. He's a motivator and can get players to play for each other, but what he doesn't do is improve them as players (and with some of the great young talent we have, we need that badly)
Plus, talk about route-one, get-the-ball-up-front-immediately football!!
Makes Houllier look exciting at times.
Plus, he isn't proven at the highest level, I don't give a fuck if he has knocked us out of Europe and has a decent record.

There are two types of manager we should go for I reckon:
1. Someone who has been there, done it, won league's and/or EC's and knows the business like the back of his hand. managers in this category include Capello, Hitzfeld and maybe even Ranieri.
Failing that, we need a young and hungry coach who has a good record of improving the quality of the players he has around him and getting them to perform at a higher level. I suppose Curbishly (Although "unproven" also, I'd take him over MON because he's a better coach. Simple as that) & Morinho would be my favourites if we had to go for that kind of manager.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

Kenny was at Newcastle aroud about 97/98, so its not over a decade since he managed.

I'd say underrated if anything.
This is the manager, don't forget, who's team beat us to the CL last season without spending a single penny. Not bad.
He's quite simply an awesome coach as well. A proper footballing coach who get's involoved heavily in the training of players and their routines.
You only have to look at what he has done for the likes of John Terry & Frank Lampard. They were practically nobodies until Ranieri got his capable hands on them. Now, they are two of the four best English players - the other two being Owen & Gerrard.

He's not my first choice but he's well up there and I wouldn't be at all disappointed if he came on board.

Re: Return of the King?!?!?!

i would, he arses about too much. and he spent money in the previous years. you could see lampard was going to be good at west ham dont forget. ok he has reached his potential at chelsea, but then he should with a move up in class of players he is with?

i wont blame him for spending 120 mil, as i am not sure all that was totally him!!! but they werent the best buys in any way if it was him where they?

But you could see that Cheyrou was goimg to be good when we signed him. Same with Traore, Diouff et al.
Without a quality coach they'll never fulfill potential.
Ranieri clearly has a very good record of allowing youngsters to fulfill their true potential. It's a very difficult thing and a rare skill to have.
The like of O'Neill certainly don't have it. If MON did have it he'd be one of the best managers on earth.
I think Ranieri would have had more succes this year if he HADN'T had all that money to spend. I think he's better at developing players than buying teams. The best players at Chelsea this year have all been the ones that were already there, the ones that Ranieri has developed.

His tinkering isn't ideal, but he'll learn the hard way. He probably already has. And anyway, with a squad the size of Chelsea's with the amount of big names and ego's it's practically impossible for him to NOT be "The Tinkerman" isn't it?
How else can you keeo them all happy?
He probably doesn't even want half of them!!

We'll agree to disagree on this one, Cheeks, but I just think the man deserves a bit more credit than he gets at times.
