Mobile phone unlock codes

Comrades
I've got an LG handset which is locked to 3 network and I want to give it to my Mum, but she is on Orange. Does anyone know of any sites where I am likely to be able to get the unlock code for it...or is this even possible?

Probably not

Think it's done from a device that fits onto the phone to unlock it. The code you're thinking of is the PUC code. This simply unlocks the phone if you lock it accidently (ie: enter password three times etc etc) or it allows you to transfer your phone to another network (as if you had a contract phone and wanted to keep your number but move to another networks contract).

I might be wrong though, but I don't think so

Some phones can be unlocked with codes, some with software, I found this on LG but don't assassinate me if it turns the phone into a paperweight.

Probably worth sticking the model number and "unlock" into google, then ignore the sites that charge or want you to dial a premium rate number. And your friendly phone cover salesman on any market can probably do it for free.
