Web hosting

My chief Exec wants to set up a web site for a consultancy service. I will create it no problem but I wanted some advice on Hosting.

Cost is not the primary consideration. He wants a good UK host where he has a full control panel and 10 pop 3 mail boxes. It will be a low traffic site so does not need anything more than a small business type package

Any recomendations please. Who is good , and who to avoid.

We use 1&1 at work and they are outstanding. I absolutely cannot fault them in any way.

1&1 Internet Ltd..

Their packages start at £1.99pcm with 20 POP3 mailboxes.

I'd recommend either 1 & 1 or fasthosts. Fasthosts aren't highly regarded for their CS but I can't see what you're going to need from them really. Your requirements are pretty standard for any host so I'm assuming you just want something reliable as I doubt you're going to need much from customer services.

Fasthosts if you're going ASP route 1 & 1 if you're going PHP.

Heartinternet are ok too.

1and1 and Fasthosts had some twatty cancellation rules last time I looked, I think. Fasthosts wanted £15 to change the tag for .uk domain. With 1and1 I think the issue was more over what had to be done to cancel their services. I think they demanded a fax showing the signature of the customer, even though the customer had never once signed a piece of paper for them before. Which meant it wasn't too difficult to cancel it, seeing as they had no signature to compare it to. Then they had other ways of trying to slow you down and dissuade you from leaving.
