HELP PLEASE HELP!!!
I've got an Iomega 500gb external USB drive with my iTunes library on it.
I power it up, here the sound indicating my PC has detected it but it doesn't appear on the "My Computer" menu. The drive also makes the same whirring sound over and over again.
Is it fooked?

Re: HELP PLEASE HELP!!!
It could be fucked Col, but before throwing it in the bin, try another USB cable or another USB port on your PC. I had a fucked port once, and my external backup drive made some weird whirring noises.

Re: HELP PLEASE HELP!!!
As Wiiksie says, try a different port. Those kind of noises (Whirry spin up, click, repeat) are the ones you get when the ports are not supplying quite enough power.
Rear ports are usually the more reliable in this respect as they are fed directly from the mainboard and not through a bunch of thin wires like front/side ports.

Gents,
I've tried a different lead and I tried it on both my PC and laptop without any success. It's under warranty anyway, so I think I'll send it back.
Thanks.

Anything on it you wouldn't want anyone else to see if not then make sure they do a data recovery if they have to replace it.

Col, make sure you haven't mounted any network drives or USB pen drives that would confuse Windows. For example, if your DVD drive is station E and you have a USB pen plugged in and mounted as F, Windows is not capable of mounting your external hd via USB.

It's not that Cap. I've called ebuyer and they have confirmed it's more f*cked than Jenna Jameson.

"After extensive testing by ebuyer's technical team we can confirm your drive is more knackered than Rik Waller after he's ran to the Pie Shop."
Getting a new one. Woohoo.
Will I be able to copy the tunes from my iPod back onto the new hard drive?
I'm sure I've done this before, but it was 12 months ago.
