Pens in the workplace....
Is it just me or do they go missing very regularly and often 'mysteriously'? It's almost like they get taken into another dimension through a bloody vortex or something as it happens how often that there are none around and yet nobody will have one with them?! Even the people you suspect of always taking them never seem to have one with them.

I've got the opposite problem; my desk runs over with them and I don't even know where they come from.

We had a (sad) challenge once to see if any of us could get a Bic pen to "run out" before it was lost. This was in the days when offices bought Bic pens, before cutbacks saw offices buying cheap crap pens.
One person managed it, and stuck it to the wall. Next to the post-it note pad that he'd legitimately got down to its last piece, without it being lost.
It seems all the missing pens go to Scandinavia. Is that also where the odd socks go?

I always used to have a shortage of pens despite going to the stationary cupboard every few days for two more BICs. I could never understand it and just assumed people used to pick them up off my desk. Then about four years ago I sold my car and had to clear it out before handing it over; I found about 20 lifetimes supply of black bics in the pockets. Now I have enough pens for all the school children in Africa.

I've got a stash of them at home. I put them in my shirt pocket and forget they're there. There ain't nothing like the natural buzz from a bit of white collar crime.

We have loads and some mini bulldog clips too. But would like the equivilent weight in plastic coated coloured small paper clips if we are to make a swap.

The thrill of getting office stationery in those ways died when Tesco and Asda started to stock most of it. You can buy 6000 supersized multicoloured (optionally) paperclips now for 7p. They probably even come in a handy dispenser.
I think four-hole hole-punchers might still be tough to get. But you only need them if you're re-using a folder you got on a training course for something you actually care about. And folders are 12p for 10 at the supermarket too.
