DVD burning software
Nero is getting right on my tits lately. Burns a film onto a dvd, and only after taking the time to do it does it tell me it's failed.
Anyone use anything different?
Cheers

Re: DVD burning software
do you already have the films in iso format or is Nero converting the files to DVD for you?

AXXO type stuff mate. AVI files which up until about a week ago Nero would quite happily burn without being a cunt about it.

Re: DVD burning software
Yeah so do you play them on a normal standalone DVD player? What is Nero doing, specifically?
I don't know what AXXO is but are you downloading xvid/divx avis and converting them to DVD with Nero to play on a standalone DVD player? Or do you have a DVD player which will play divx/xvid? And what Nero are you talking about? Burning Rom? express? in copy?

Re: DVD burning software
I personally use DVD Santa which is fast, easy and uses little resources I use this to convert whatever type of file it is to DVD. I then just use nero burning rom to auther the disc.
The whole process takes around 60 minutes for a 2 hour movie I'd say.
Does Nero work in the same amount of time?

Re: DVD burning software
Standatd torrent DvDrip stuff. Usually burn straight onto a dvd then play in a normal player. Nero burns the DVD, with the little frame showing you the speeded up burning process and everything, then it ejects at the end saying 'burn process failed'
And it's Nero 6 or something. Too many questions, can't cope with the pressure

Re: DVD burning software
Try writing a couple of normal data DVDs, make sure it's not a fucked DVD writer.
Burning divX to DVD type software, I use ConvertXtoDVD. Dead quick and reliable. Kung Fu Panda took about 25 minutes or thereabouts to convert and burn before.
Anyway...
Are you using different type of blanks? When was the last time you updated the firmware in your DVD drive?
Different discs use different dyes in the production process, and each dye needs its own writing strategy, as they call it, for an efficient burn. The firmware keeps a table of media codes (dye/layer) so the writer knows the max writing speed and the best writing strategy for that particular disc.
So, if you are using a new type of blank disc, your writer may not recognise the media type which will make it use a generic strategy, which can lead to iffy burn quality, or just plain vanilla flavoured fucked at worst.

Re: DVD burning software
Was gonna suggest ConvertXtoDVD too. Great bit of kit.
You'd use ConvertX if you wanted to maybe drop an avi onto a dvd and make it a "video" dvd. You can actually use ConvertX to throw a number of avi's onto a dvd, create a menu, etc. But that's beside the point. This disc should then be playable on all dvd players.
The other option is to use Nero to just create a "data" dvd. That's literally just using the disc as a storage location, and will only be readable by computers and some dvd players. Actually, most dvd players can now handle avi type stuff.
So I guess if you're making data discs through Nero and the burn is failing, maybe you could try the ConvertX route. If you're making "video" discs through Nero and the burn is failing, maybe you could try the ConvertX route.
You could maybe also reduce your burn speed. Sometimes that does the trick.
Other than that, I'm afraid I'm shit out of ideas.
