Re: Alexei Sayle programme tonight on Liverpool

I turned off 10 minutes in after he mentioned we were a self pity city. Dont know if he changed his viewpoint later into the programme cos I cant be arsed with him.

Oh and also I still remember his shit skits on Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, Dr Martins, etc.

To be honest he ended coming across alright. Thought he was going to cause a bit more of a stir.

It was really good I thought, spot on. Read somewhere it was three parts, hopefully the next two are just as good.

Re: Alexei Sayle programme tonight on Liverpool

We watched most of it. I plus-ed it and series link-ed it.

It was generally good. At times it seemed he was trying too hard to make amends for badmouthing the city and ultimately leaving. But this is a man who is prepared to stand up and be counted. He's a jewel in Liverpool's crown in the same vein as Redmond, McGough and Tomlinson.

I've always had a major soft spot for Alexei. He is a comrade and scouser.

I've had a view on him for the last few years that he's a bit of a sell out - but last nights show went some way to addressing that I think.

When he made those comments in 03, it was clear - he admitted it himself - that he was just so out of touch with the City and its people, he now feels a bit of a tit for saying it.... The part where he said about H Enfield not being lambasted but he, a son of the City was, should have told him everything.

My only 'problem' with him, was that he should ever become so out of touch with where he came from. Last night, he at least stuck his hand up and admitted it - which is fair enough.

I've never really liked his comedy, but you can't ignore the fact that he did his bit in the 80's with getting the message out there, and his benefit gigs etc.

But I watched this last night and I thought it was really good. (Although I thought 'Alexei you pussy' when the lad in the newsagents asked him if he was red or blue and he said 'neutral').

Nice image of the newspapers being burnt, and Alexei saying 'the producers aren't keen on doing this' and the other lad just wanting to get on and burn them. And that dopey cunt who had to think twice before turning down a free copy of the shitrag...dur, mcFly...

I thought it was alright myself. Although the four twats who shook the world got a mention I was glad to see that he tried to talk about other things Liverpool has given the world.

Anyone got a torrent of it for a scouser stuck down under?? A few other lost souls may appreciate it as well.

Re: Alexei Sayle programme tonight on Liverpool

Good trip down memory lane that.

People might not have liked his comedy but he hasn't got to where he is today by being shit.

It would have been easy for him to go the way of the other Silverwear Scousers. Cilla Tarby Marsden. There's a list of them but just because hes moved down south hes always kept his roots.

It showed the city isn't just about the Beatles and football.

So what if in the past he did say negative things. At the time there was a lot to be negative about and sill is. At least where he was wrong he held his hands up and admitted it.

Wasn't to sure about the Derick Hatton bit. It came across as though Hatton was always trying to do the wright thing for us. He started out like that but as time went on he lost his way and was lured towards the bright lights and became a bit of a flash get.(Take note MR Bradley) A
