Random Thoughts On Guest Houses

1. Currently in a guest house in York having consumed most of a bottle of red wine.

2. You have to love guest houses with WiFi.

3. Using my super MacBook, should I hijack the WiFi of local private houses rather than than that of the guest house?

4. Why do all English guest houses feel they have to fit the twee country image Americans have of them?

5. Why are all the televisions in guest houses mounted on wall brackets?

6. Why do they put complimentary packets of digestives alongside complimentary packets of custard creams? I mean, faced with that choice WHO in their RIGHT MIND is going to choose the digestives?

7. Why do they fold the end of the spare toilet roll paper into the cardboard 'axle'? You're not setting napkins on a dinner table FFS.

8. Now I've finished the custard creams those digestives are starting to look pretty good.....

Re: Random Thoughts On Guest Houses

I like Digestives, they are a proper biscuit in my book.

Don't trust those places, they remind me of the League of Gentleman. Just decline any invitation down to the Cellar.

Ha. Currently listening to the moron in the next room trying to open his door. He's obviously been on the piss and has been at it for three minutes.

Re: Random Thoughts On Guest Houses

I love staying in guest houses - far more interesting than boring corporate hotels. There's a book I have (but can't remember the name of) which lists great guest houses where the owners are chefs and produce fab breakfasts and dinners. Homely and lovely scran. Having said that, I stayed in the Hard Days Night hotel in Liverpool on Saturday night. Nice rooms and bar, though the public bar predictably stuffed with day-glo orange bimbettes in cheap shoes and little else. Felt a bit of a class traitor drinking in the casa earlier though. A very civilised place, the casa. It's what the Grapes used to be like before the touristas arrived.
