Amir Khan
How good can this lad eventually be? Hopefully he'll break away from Warren when the time comes as Hatton did, otherwise he'll never get the real top fights. But if he's managed well, he can go all the way and be as good as Hatton and Calzaghe. So far I think he's going at a decent pace, he's had a few tricky opponents, but it's been plain sailing most of the way. The opponents will only get harder from now so it'll be interesting to see just how far he can go.
Perosnally I think he can reach the very top, definitely a world champion in the making.
And for those who missed it, here's his brief demolition of Graham Earl. Watch it while you can, frankwarren.tv are sure to take it down soon!

Boxing doesn't quite work like that.

He's fought some decent fighters and they have gradually increased in quality. He's still on course to be Britain's youngest world champion boxer.
I agree about the comments on youtube. Fucking brainless idiots.

Not even the greats of the game fought anybody 'decent' after just 14 pro fights.

Re: Amir Khan
It's hard to get excited about him beating someone half his size in 2 minutes.

Graham Earl was certainly a "live" opponent. Khan just blew him apart though.
I've always been very critical of Frank Warren for the way he over-protects his fighters. However I think he learned his lesson with Hatton who basically got fed up of fighting nobodies or has beens and fucked him off.
Considering how many fights Khan has had he's certainly fought a better standard than most fighters have in this country at the same point in their career. I think Warren knows how good Khan can be and Amir isnt going to be fighting stiffs again.
For example our very own Paul Smith, a talented boxer and a nice lad has been paired up with some right dodo's. I'm worried that Smigger will suffer when he finally matches up with somebody a bit tasty. He did beat Reid who was good fighter a few years ago but other than Paul hasnt really fought anybody of note.

Did you know that they fight in weight categories?
It's exciting seeing how good he is at his age. I guess you are to boxing the equivalent of the day tripper.

Weight categories.....really!!!!!!
Kahn still had 5 inches in height and whatever the reach difference was, Earl has only had 12 fights more than Kahn despite being 8 years his senior, but I'm sure Earl was really great and a real test for him.
I'm sure Kahn will be a good boxer but I'm not gonna get excited about someone knocking bells out of shitty little confidence builders.

Re: Amir Khan
His hand speed is the thing that sets him apart. Shades of Sugar Ray Leonard or Thomas Hearns (early on) for me. Obviously they are two of the biggest names the sport has ever seen, so Khan shouldn't be burdened as such, but that's the sort of fighter I'm reminded of when I see his hand speed.
He will be world champion one day, but then if he is managed well and keeps his hunger, I would imagine he could be undisputed and possibly even go on to be one of the greats.
It's early days though. He's very young still. Let him build up his ringcraft gradually, but by the time he is mid 20's he should be on top of the world.

Perhaps they should start having divisions in height instead then? Or maybe reach... fuck's sake!

But Earl has fought at a much higher level. It was a good fight. Earl was ranked higher than Khan.

Graham Earl is a very decent opponent for Khan to be fighting at this stage of his career, as was Limond. Earl is an ex European champion and had only lost 2 fights going into that match. he was the right opponent, however Khan blew him away. Very few people who know their boxing would have foreseen it. I'm sure you think you know better but ju | |
