Who's the greatest DIYer
Three rules
1)Has to have been a solo effort
2)Can't be related to your Job
3)hasn't been part of an insurance claim recently
I put a curtain rod up, I probably won't win.

Re: Who's the greatest DIYer
Being a real man, although I don't particularly enjoy it, I'm quite handy with a hammer and some power-tools. I've fitted a kitchen, I'm that fucking hard.

Yep. Not only plumbed in the sink and washer, but converted the taps from two separates to a mixer tap. Cut my plumbing teeth on that job, which stood me in good stead for plumbing in the bathroom in the current Chez Noos, which I did as well.

Re: Who's the greatest DIYer
I'm currently painting the spare room. Then I shall put some wood flooring down. I'm practicing on the spare room before moving on to the lounge and bedroom. I'm sub-contracting the wiring of the telly, computer and speakers to Mr Cath.

Is it glue wood flooring, or the click together stuff?

Re: Who's the greatest DIYer
I am Mr Flat Pack furniture. I visualise the solution to the puzzle like a Ninja from the Ikea clan, armed with only a allen key and kitchen knife (well okay proper screwdrivers) I can assemble anything in ten mins flat.
Drilling holes in walls is not my forte though.

Well done on the plumbing Noos.
I can read IKEA instructions and make them work. Seriously.

It's a little easier to fit I think. I did our living room and dining room, but it was the glue together stuff. Laying the flooring is actually not that hard once you get the first three rows done. Get them straight, and it should be plain sailing. The biggest pain in the arse is what to do about the skirting. The whole jobs looks better if you can remove the skirting, and then replace afterwards, but our house is an old one, and that alone was a proper headache.

Me too. If I was on Heroes, my skill would be assembling and making sense of Ikea instructions and furniture.

Re: Who's the greatest DIYer
I am about to embark on a loft conversion. It is not a solo project and I am not putting in the stairs or the window myself. Looking forward to it though. Power tools rule.

Hmm, you're right I hadn't considered that dilemma. I may get a crowbar and go for taking the skirt off.
