I've often said that if it was a choice between which substance to make illegal on medical grounds (Alcohol vs Cocaine) then in my opinion it would be the former every time.
People who get addicted to alcohol are missing something in their lives and would find something else if it wasn't available (food, chocolate, sock puppets).
