Re: Cubs and Scouts

Gay or not, fucking great. I was in the Cubs, Scouts and Ventures and had a great time. We did loads of camping, outdoor pursuits and semi-violent games. Junior is joining Beavers in the new year.

I must say though that the whole "cover for paedos" thing was getting out of hand a few years back. It seemed like barely a week went by without the conviction of a Scout leader. I was involved in the Birkenhead Gang Shows for years (a great laugh) and knew the two blokes who wrote and directed them. They were both convicted of such offences and jailed. The mad thing is, in retrospect, the dodginess was there for all to see. They'd hand-pick (looking back) exclusively blond lads to go on trips to see other shows with them. I knew one of the lads who eventually gave evidence againt one of them. He was fucked up beyond belief by the time he hit his late teens/early 20s.

That shit has taken years for the Scout Association to get out of the public consciousness and I reckon there's still a residue there. That's unfortunate as it creates fantastic opportunities for kids - especially in this digital age when the outdoors is a largely alien concept to most.

Re: Cubs and Scouts

Intersting as little G is 4 and we discussed the cubs last night and could come to any conclusion whether it was a good idea or not.I was in cubs but did not realy enjoy it and ended up getting kicked out for fighting but I would not use that as a reson for him not enjoying it.

Re: Cubs and Scouts

Defo gay, My parents made me join and I still haven't forgiven them. We used to go to Tawd Vale and as a ritual they would tie some lad they hated to a gravestone strip him naked and sting his knob with nettles. The lad who did it was older than the rest of us and seemed to get a weird perverted gay kick out of looking at this lads cock. There were too many semi homo practices in the scouts for Doctor Troy's comfort such as "keeping warm" in the tent at night. Even Bob a Job was fucking gay. Thankfully I joined two footy teams so used the excuse to my parents that I was too busy to go.

Re: Cubs and Scouts

I was in cubs and enjoyed it, but that was a long time ago.

Little Miss RR is in the "Rainbows", like a girls' version of Beavers, and loves it.

You sure that was the Cubs? Sounds a bit like some sort of retreat for politicians.

Re: Cubs and Scouts

I was in beavers, cubs and scouts until I was about 15 and I throughly enjoyed it. Camping, rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, football and generally tom foolery. What wasn't to love?

That was another camp they went to, they wanted us to dress up in suspenders put snooker balls in our mouths and hang ourselves in garages wearing binbags but fortunately I missed out on that trip.
