If they were good Catholics they would only have sex after they had got married to a fellow virgin of the opposite sex. And once they'd got married it would be their duty to have children, so they'd have to have sex without contraception. So anyone having sex outside of marriage is breaking the rules anyway. If everyone stuck to those rules, HIV would find itself struggling to spread quite so much.

That's an observation not a condonement or condemnation of any point of view.

The Archbishop should be taken away from his post for telling lies, which is also against the rules.

The shocking thing for me is the allegation the Archbishop has made. If there are two countries in Europe sending AIDS-infected condoms to Africa then he needs to say everything he knows (or thinks he knows).

As for the debate about condom use and catholic teaching, if catholic teaching was adhered to it would deal with the AIDS problem very effectively. You can't blame a catholic Archbishop for getting that point across.

I think you can.
When so many people have AIDS in Africa and it's obvious that people are having sex outside wedlock and spreading the disease. When you have the responsibility of Catholic Archbishop maybe you should look at the world and use a bit of common sense? Instead of saying things like condoms are the work of satan.
Which is more evil, having sex outside of wedlock against the teachings of your religion, or adhering strictly to doctrine and using your power to influence people to not use condoms when there are 50 million people infected with HIV in Africa?

Well that's just it; the Catholic Church would say the former is worse, although most rational people would disagree. As a general rule, this is one of the dangers you have with religion - people are encouraged to stick to dogmatic doctrine, even when it entails behaving in a manner that runs contrary to logic.

If that archbishop has proof of what he is saying he should produce it now, if not he should stand down from his post immediately.

From a Catholic doctrine perspective the only time that the use of a condom should become an issue is when one of the people within a marriage has HIV and does not want to infect their partner. Other than that if people are sleeping with one another outside of marriage they are not exactly being 'good' Catholics and should have no difficulty in wearing a condom.
