help with 'torrent stuff'

jus downloaded bitcomet and last night i started to download 2 films and an album, i thought id leave it going over night and it should be done by the morning. i've got a 2 gig broardband connection but when i woke up, the album was done but the films are only 50% done each and still downloading. They're only 800mgb each done not HUGE files, so why are they taking so long!? is it because im downloading more than one at a time??

No. It depends howmany people are seeding and what their upload speeds are.

Also, it can depend upon your ISP, and what service you have from them.


Some ISPs actively throttle p2p data, as it can cause network congestion. Also, if your local telephone exchange is congested with users, that can also cause low speeds as there is limited bandwidth from the exchange into the main "pipe" which has to be shared amongst users. Obviously, if everyone is trying to hammer their connection on that exchange, everyone suffers.

Similar problem with Cable, except it's the local UBR that can get congested rather than the ADSL rack in your phone exchange.

Theres shitloads more factors to take into account too, but I just can't be arsed typing it all out for now.

I switched to utorrent and seem to get better speeds. i like being able to download certain bits of a file, for example certain tracks off an album.
