Best NYE ever
Normally I hate it , as Paul said , its a young mans night .The endless taxi queues, pubs jammed to the rafters, beer upped to extortionate prices and the inevitable violence and projectile vomiting witessed on the route home.
So for the second year running , me and Mrs gav went gigging. The Frames seem to play a NYE gig most years, last year we booked Killarney and watched em ,this year they played Vicar street in Dublin. They didn't come on stage till 11:30 but had the excellent songwriter Mark Geary to entertain me before they did .Have said this a lot last year but it was one of the best gigs I've been to.
Halfway through the second set , the band ,who'd been chugging beer all night went off stage and the truly talented Damien Rice came out and played a set while the band sat on the side watching and then joining in with background music. They then did a tribute to Pink Floyd ( partly induced by Waters gig in cork that the lads had been at) and the whole show ended with Mic Christophers Heyday with Rice, Geary and the other supportband all joining in ...blew me away .Gig finished at 2am ,And even better was that I had been at the venue since 8 ,so had a major belly full of booze and the mrs was driving so no taxi queues...I don't think I've ever enjoyed a NYE so much and as long as I have control over my bowel movements and can hear without electronic aid ,I'll never pub it on NYE again .Gigs all the way for me now
Apart from Paul for obvious reasons , anyone else have as good a night ??

Re: Best NYE ever
Sounds Like a great night Gav. I went to a house party and got absolutly smashed!! Then I fell down the last 2 or 3 stairs in the house and I've done something to my ankle. I had to miss the match yesterday because of it and It's still killing me now.

They sucked in a really bad way. Went to see them live in Manchester on the NME tour and it was like listening through the opening of a cell in Guantanamo Bay.

Re: Best NYE ever
Just going off the mention of Damien Rice I found the first decent live clip of 9 Crimes on youtube this morning if anyone is interested:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEGT_5IkrgE
Can't wait for a Lisa Hannigan solo album if and when one comes in the future.

Cheers Gav. Not really into that "Some surprise" tune but I like a lot of the people involved there so I reckon I'll get that.
