Tenacious D fucking rocked

Fantastic gig. We got to see the support act first (a stand-up comedian called Neil Hamburger who was so bad that the whole MEN arena were stamping their feet and shouting 'Off! Off! Off! Off!'. He went mental at that and starting calling the crowd cocksuckers and telling us that we were getting another 10 jokes for that, and that Tenacious D had left the building and we were getting Kevin Federline instead.

An example of his comedy:

Q: Why couldn't the guests at Courtney Love's party use the toilet?
A: Because she was dead on it.

Q: Why did Paris Hilton rub shit on her pussy?
A: Because she was horny.

Apparently, looking at that Wikipedia entry, he's meant to be really bad. Strange.

After that, we watched in awe as an impromptu paper aeroplane competition started, each on that went more than a few metres getting a round of applause.

Then the main act started. Started in their flat, then Jack Black tried to plug the guitar into a power outlet that was covered in beer. Big bang, lights went down. Short movie shown with the two of them on their way to hell.

Then it moved to hell with Colonel Sanders on drums, Charlie Chaplin (who went to hell because he was gay) on bass and the anti-Christ (who looks strangely like Jesus) on electric guitar.

And then they fucking rocked.

Chris, KarlB and anybody else who went, what did you think?

I booked tickets months ago, got an apology email from them saying that they had incorrectly sold me the tickets and the concert was now sold out, Ticketmaster are absolute bastards. Instead I had to listen to a seminar on negogiation. Am glad that you enjoyed it lads and the fact the the MEN sold out will mean that they will come back again soon.

Right so here's what happened with the gig last night.

I was supposed to be getting a train at about 5 to get me into Manchester by 7 where I was meeting my pals. My hosuemate (whose brother let us down) rang and said can I leave work early as he couldnt get to Manchester early and was now driving and could give me a lift. Great I thought, so I left work at 4:30.

I thought we were taking the Snake Pass (A57) but he insisted it was quicker on the A616 ( I think?) so we went that way. Then the fun began.

Nearly 4 bastard hours it took us, I was mightily pisssed off, as was our mate who not only had had to flog a ticket last minute and at less than face value (although he was compensated by the fact that a bird who he worked with joined us and was quite hot) but he also thought we wouldn't make it.

we got to Manchester just after 8, parked at the Arndale and then legged it across to the MEN. So if you saw two loons sprinting Will then that was me.

We met our mate got in, sat down and with that The D came on. Oh it was worth it, they rocked, slow, fast and extremely hard and there was a good crowd. Really enjoyed the gig and my spirits were high.

Until I got back in his chuffing car.

He decided he would go back on the M62 and the M1, the long but 'quick' way he reckoned, and I wasnt in the mood to disagree. Firstly, he couldnt get us out of Manchester, secondly he didnt know where he was going on the M62 and said that I should know as I'm from that part of the country. Lucky I did know, I got us back to Sheffield and I thought my woes were over, until he missed all the turn offs for Sheffield and took the one for the M18 to Doncaster, we got two junctions down and he turned back.

We eventually made it back in one piece.

Ooof, that's not good driving.

If it's any compensation, the A616 got me to Manchester in just under an hour when we went to Less Than Jake a few weeks back.

Dudes, the gig was fucking awesome. They put on such an amazing show, it was almost like rock musical theatre with the story that flowed through the performance.

Black is a genius. If I could be anyone else in the world I think it would be him. Not only is he a massive star in Hollywood, he gets to rock in front of 15,000 people nightly. The Chemistry he has with KG is amazing too.

Beelzeboss was the best song for me, but I really enjoyed Karate, Double Team and then all the hits. Tribute was incredible and to hear 15,000 scream "you don't always have to fuck her hard." was completely surreal.

Kudos to Lee aswell.

All in all a fantastic gig. I love those guys.
