Anyone work in a bank/building society?
Right, I want to fuck Barclays off because I've had enough of all these stupid charges they keep hitting me with. I get charged for having a personal account, I get charged for them handling my mortgage payments, I get charged any time I pay a cheque or cash into the business account, they charge me for sending out statements, they charge for everyfuckingthing basically.
I want to move my personal and business accounts to somewhere I won't be getting charged for nothing (unless I go overdrawn, which is fair enough and I don't mind paying for that).
I want debit cards for both accounts (right now only my personal account has one because they were gonna charge me to have one for the business), overdrafts of, say £500 on each, and I don't wanna have to do any work in cancelling and transferring direct debits etc, I want whoever I switch to do that automatically.
I've heard that building societies don't do all those mad charges that banks do, but that some won't do business accounts. Is this the case, and if so which ones do business accounts?
I'm fed up of having to pay for business stuff on my personal card, and then having to transfer money from one account to the other, as its a nightmare when it comes to listing it all in the accounts. I want to be able to do all business transactions from the business account.
So is there anyone who works in these kind of places, or anyone who has their own business and can give me some advice?

And go look on moneysavingexpert.com. There's bound to be some good stuff about bank accounts on there.

Dave, I just moved my business accounts to Abbey National, they seemed to have the best of everything when I was scouting around. Best rates (it seems to be just about a totally free business banking service), lowest charges, best online banking, etc etc. I set up 4 accounts with them, 2 business ones (one for ins and outs and one for accruing interest on my company earnings), and 2 personal ones.
Although its their job to, they couldnt do enough for me in setting everything up. Was previously with lloyds, who were the biggest thieving bunch of cunts Ive ever known (similar to barclays Id think).

My old man says Nationwide are the best building society (interest rates, charges etc) and the penny pinching bastard's usually right when it comes to monetary matters.

Cheers mate, I'll look into that. Will they give me a free debit card for the business, or do I have to pay for one?

I think everything is free, all payments in/out (unless its into the thousands of transactions pm), cards, business cheque books etc.
They call it 'free business banking for life' or summat. Well worth looking into.

My business accounts are with Lloyds. Think they're fairly standard costs for the big banks. They give you a year or so free of charge then 3 years down the line you pay for everything. I've just changed to a e-account or summat. They don't charge for any online transactions. Not sure if the debit cards are free or not. I guess I should know that.
I hate banks. They're just another supplier and should be treated as such. This helping hand for business is just crap. Went to see the bank manager a few months ago and he said, "Hello girls, how's the bakery doing?". We run a cutlery company.
However bad the bank is it can't be as bad as changing banks. However much you write/fax/phone some customers they just wont get it through their thick skulls that they need to change your BACS details. Always the public sector ones as well.
Sorry Dave, not much help, just a wee rant really.

You know it Cath. Business Managers are just fuckwits, give me a decent online method of banking any day of the week. Lloyds have now got an automated phoning service where a machine bells you 4 or 5 times a day to tell you that your account is overdrawn. That was the last straw.

Banks are for losers. I keep all my cash on my person at all times, in my underwear.
It's the future people; you heard it here first.

From my experience of them I would say not often.
