Last time you were nuts about a bird
I know this is camp, but I can’t remember the last time I met a bird I was genuinely nuts about. I’m talking of the wobbly legs qeezy guts variety.
Knew this one bird in college and then saw her again in Uni but lost touch with her, she was as fit as they come, clever, funny, and probably the nicest person I’ve ever met (she did loads of charity work and volunteered time to work with disabled kids).
That was about four years ago, and the others I’ve met and the couple I’ve been out with have just been ‘something to do’ and on the whole pretty bland.
It makes me wonder how many couples around have simply ‘settled’ for each other when they shacked up, this worries me greatly.
Is this a by-product of getting older – that I’m not as easily impressed as I was as a teenager/early twenties lad, have I been unlucky with who I’ve come across since, or are women in general aspiring toward things like careers celebrity and possessions – and gaining a ‘harder’ veneer that makes them less appealing (this is my theory, as Frank Sinatra sang “When I was thirty-five, it was a very good year, it was a very good year for blue blooded girls of independent means” I know that feeling, believe me!
Fuck it, I’m off to moisturise.

Re: Last time you were nuts about a bird
Corny I know but it’s my current girlfriend. Saw her working at my local last summer. She looked all classy and not like any of the tarty girls like normally work in a bar, and thought “you see that bird over there, she’s the type of girl you’ll never get cause she’s way out your league and girls like that always have blokes. Turns out I was in her class at college for two weeks a few years back also (did some art stuff there).
A few weeks later she came over to where I was sitting and gave me her number after I asked her if she would like to go out for a drink, turns out she fancied me too.
We now share a flat having moved away from our hometown with another and are talking about getting engaged.

Cheers John! But It would be quite easy for me to get in touch with her again, she only lives about ten minutes walk from mine, and I see her out round ours now and again and she’s virtually always with a bloke, seen her with about three or four different fellas over the last four years! Think I’ll leave that well alone, but I wish I could get that feeling back again!

Well you can't just get it back; its not that simple. Things would be more straightforward if we could choose who to fall in love with, but far less magical...

Ha ha, nah to be honest I did actually ask her through a mate four years ago (Not cos I’m a shithouse, but because I couldn’t just turn up at her door like an odd-ball!) and she said she was ‘dating someone but would keep my number’ my response to this was to change my phone the next day, sounds a bit stupid now, but I wanted it ‘over’ one way or the other if that makes any sense, didn’t wanna be sitting there for the next three months waiting for a text from a bored girl, bollocks to that!
Seen her out a few times and it’s the most vulnerable I’ve ever felt, knowing she knows what I think but I don’t know the same, I usually try and avoid her now, I think she thinks I’ve got it in for her or something, but I wouldn’t wanna feel that strongly about someone again if I couldn’t have them.
I will accept the forums judgement as to the homosexual nature of my comments – and will offer no defence!

Interesting post.
I'm 27 and haven't had a relationship for two years. I haven't had a serious relationship since I was 18. My mother worries and asks me why? I just can't be bothered/I'm happy on my own/It's too much like hard work/If it happens it happens, you don't manufacture it etc etc are my responses.
I think the problem is that we are brought up on shite films where people's eyes meet across a crowded room, or people are thrown together through some serdipitous occurrence and everyone lives blissfully happily for evermore. People by nature romanticise to make their world a better place.
The reality is very different though. We are not God's creation, we do not have a destiny that we will fullfill, we are simply highly evolved animals with the same desire to procreate and the same nesting instincts as most other creatures.
I think that a loving relationship is an delusional acquiesce between partners.
You could just say I was a cynic though?
