If you burst a balloon in a vacuum will you hear it go bang?

"at the end of the day"

"hmmm interesting"

people in work say this when they have a conversation with someone, their clearly bored out of their tits talking to the other person and trying to get away so they just go.

"hmm interesting" and try to walk off, this is followed by the commonly used.

"hmmm yes very interesting"

this is used by the other person who cant stand the other person and made a mistake by talking to them in the first place. BASICALLY at the end of the day you have two people slowly backing off from each other muttering "hmmm interesting"

"and I've turned around and said"

When people say that it is so irritating, it adds nothing to the sentence and is probably factually incorrect. Why do people say it?

*Paul have I split an infinitive there?*

"At the end of the day" is my latest thing-I-wish-I-didn't-keep-saying. It really does my head in, but at the end of the day there's nothing I can do about it.

I am also enjoying saying "billocky bollocky boo" a lot lately, for reasons unknown.

Re: Random mis/overuse of random words. Random.

i dislike the use of the word 'ironic' as the examples when the word it is used are rarely ironic.

cue NP to come in 'its like Raaaaaa - eeee - aaaaain'

apart from that i find the use of the word 'wholeheartedly' most overused and infuriating in my household.

Re: Random mis/overuse of random words. Random.

Unbelievable - Okay, so a team scores a goal in the last minute of a match. It hardly qualifies as unbelievable though, does it? Not exactly X - Files territory.

Admit - On any Sky Sports News story, it's always 'Liverpool boss Rafeal Benitez admits his team will have to score to progress in the Champions League'. Investigative reporting at its very, very best.

'The Spaniard also admitted that it was him that used the last teabag, but was a little more cagy over the responsibility for that lingering fart in the press conference.'

Looking at it from a football pundit point of view the phrases most annoyingly overused must be "for me" and "by the way".

Whenever Andy Townsend says anything at all it will begin with "For Me" and end with "by the way"

eg. "for me Thierry Henry is a decent player by the way"

fuck off Townsend, and all the others that have needlessly followed suit. If anyone attempts to listen to TalkSport when Townsend has a chat with Rod Marsh about the upcoming fixtures (i think that'll be tonight at about 5:15 as i often hear it on my way home on a friday) they will see/hear for themselves.

That does my head in too. Football commentators are the worst perpetrators, especially that twat Motson.
