Larry David..
...is a fucking genius. That episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where he picks up the hooker so he can drive in the car pool lane is pure gold. As is the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine have a bet on who can last longest without wanking. Ricky Gervais is a talented fucker, but next to David he is well out of his depth.

Re: Larry David..
Never got Seinfield and not mad about Curb. Great comedy has scenes and catchphrases that last for decades, crap comedy gets shifted around the schedules hoping to find that 'back from the pub, would watch basket weaving.'

I don't know if I agree. Little Britain and Catherine Tate have catchphrases galore, but to me are both very lazy shows which use memorable lines to mask a lack of inventiveness and ideas. Seinfeld is just classic line after classic line, and I think it would have been huge here if BBC2 had had the balls to put it on at a decent time.

Nah, that logic doesn't add up to me. It's like saying the best songs ever are the ones that reached number one in the charts, or the ones with the catchiest choruses. I can still remember No Limits - that doesn't mean it's one of the greastest songs of all time.
My Family gets huge viewing figures, and is on at prime time. People seem to like Carrie and fucking Barrie! Yet Curb is on More4. Go figure.

I never said huge audiences, just that when a comedy hits the mark it is embraced in the manner lampooned by the Fast Show with Colin who reels off lines ad-nauseum. As shows like early Fools and Horses or ITV's Men Behaving Badly (even Little Britain worked it's way up the schedules) comedy has to be nurtured and the audience given time to become acquainted.
Channel 4 in particular pisses me off for shoving shows around the schedule, often to make way for their reliance on reality shows to fill their programming.
