due to the mention of

Tonton Moukoko, Kenedy Bakircioglu and Kim Kallstrom on the football forum, thought this might be a better place to put a thread about those players that came from nowhere to be 'must buys' for your teams.

We all know about those ones, but who else?

I remember of Champ Man 3 (it might have been 2 actually) that there was a saudi left back named Abdul Ghani Sulaimani (sp?) who was about 21 and £500k, that became the first player on my shopping list everytime. at the end of his 1st season he was worth around £9m and an ever present. awesome.

the other one was Maurice Harkin, some young N. Ireland midfielder from non-league. What a player!

Re: due to the mention of

I played the first ever version of the game for Amiga and it was called Championship Manager.

Personal favourite signings included young (yeah I know) Chris Bart-Williams and the great utility man Paul Warhurst. Also George Ndah would often turn out a superstar, as would Ivica Mornar. Bruce Dyer was also a hot talent.

In the first game you could only choose to play in England and if your players became too good then they would opt to go abroad and play. It was something over which you had no control even though you did earn a bit of cash from it.

At the end of each season there would be a close season while the computer loaded the following season. It could take up to an hour, but we all thought it was definitely worth it.

Re: due to the mention of

I remember there being 2 guys who played for Oxford. It was the developers and they stuck themselves in the Oxford reserves and if you bought them they ended up being mint after about hlaf a season. Cant remember their names though. The load times where pretty mental though!

In Champ Man 2 - Don Hutchison was always one of my best players!

Paul and Oliver Collyer I think they were called. First champ man was class, do a season in about an hour, Dominic Matteo as a goalie

Re: due to the mention of

From CM 00/01 I think:

Byron Bubb - amazing player became 1 £20m right winger after signing for a measly few hundred grand from Millwall I think.

Romeo Castelen - Another £20m rated player but played on the left. Picked up for a small fee.

Also I think it was this version which still had Ronaldinho at Germio, sign him for £5m and he was truly amazing.

These three helped me dominate the premiership for years.

Re: due to the mention of

I seem to remember Barry Roche from Forest was the keeper to buy, he was 16 but absolutely incredible, then you would head over to peterborough and raid all their quality players (well they were at the time) - etherington, davies et al.

There was this class player from bulgaria whos name escapes me, but he was a top player, great stats, uber cheap and scored loads from midfield. Anyway the point is, its really gratifiying when you make your own discovery - thats what makes the game so cool.

The other great player was Scott Huckerby (Darren's brother) who played for conference side Telford United (where I used to live) he turned out to be an amazing player, and after a couple of seasons would usually end up at a premiership club, bizzarely on a wage of around £300 a week, even though I had offered a lot more!!

You don't see many players like that anymore I can tell you!

Re: due to the mention of

anatoli todorov,i bought him off Litex in bulgaria for next to nothing,i was Basel for about 7 seasons and he scored in those 7 season well over 300 goals for me and he was only about 25 when i spewed it.

gutted he isnt on the new one and i was gutted he couldnt get a work permit because he well would of been a red.

aswell as him Jardel in scotland for rangers took the piss,i won the champions league with them.

Also another couple of good players from CM were David Livermore, Marc Bircham and Tim Cahill ( Yes him ) from Millwall, Richie Wellens from Blackpool, Liegh Bromby from Sheff Wed, Mark ( I think ) Disley from Mansfield, Ronnie O'Brien a young Irish lad from Juventus, Enzo Maresca from Fiorentina, Florentin Petre and a striker (can't remember his name but he was f****** ace ) from Dinamo Bucherest

And in reference to the developers in CM 93 witht the update disk I am pretty sure it was a guy's was Steve Collis (who was the greatetst AM in the game) and the other bloke was called Fowler (no not Robbie) but The Collyer brothers yes they are definatley the creators.

Marcos Sequiros from some Spanish team on Champ Man3. I shit you not, 42 goals in one season for only £750000. Bargain. He was'nt on the new version but I look for him every time. I miss him.

Best player ever was Diego (the AMC) in CM4. With the right tactic he'd bag 40-50 goals per season.

Re: due to the mention of

Used to buy a Saudi or Egypt keeper, Al Somethingsomething. Best keeper in the game. Can't remember but I think it was 01-02-version.

Also remember in the first version I played, around 1996, Nick Summerby(sp), Neil Lennon and Danny Murphy was the biz in midfield. I once had Derby, and ended up with those three in midfield and Ronaldo and Owen on top (can't remember the rest of the lineup...). We were unbeatable

Re: due to the mention of

Pete Prospar, Ever moas, Pawel Brozek, Haruna Babangida some striker from Cardiff whos name escapes me, most of the sweden u21 team and or the entire Atalanta team, which included pinardi my all time greates player. Some Egyptian centre half who was great. Bruno for Gremio was always quality.

Must say Pete Prospar was the greatest find, he would have about 50 teams after hime at the very start of the game and would be worth about 20-30 million before that came the norm on these new versions

Re: due to the mention of

99/00 - Adrian Mihalcea

Romanian striker signed for 400k and he scored around 40 goals in 50 appearances for me in his first season, then I sold him for £30m

02/03 - Maxim Tsigalko

Belarusian goal machine. I could never sign him for an English team as he couldn't get a work permit, but in the Spanish or Italian leagues he was amazing

03/04 - Ederson

Brazilian teenager, signed for 80k and he ends up taking Ronaldinho's team in the Brazil team!

Can't remember what year it was but I signed Isaac Okoronkwo and he was class too, then a few months later he signed for Wolves I think. That seems to happen all the time. A player comes good on champ. man then shortly after they burst onto the scene in real life. Fair play to the champ man scouts, they're good at picking bright prospects. Although the Okoronkwo example is poor because he was shit in real life! But I remember signing Robben as a 16 year old and he was really good, and Rooney and a few others have come good aswell.
