Liverpool’s under 18 side closed the gap at the top of the table to one point with a hard fought victory over Crewe Alexandra at the Academy. The reds went into the game three points behind Blackburn Rovers, who were held to a draw by Manchester United, but goals from Charlie Barnett, Craig Lindfield and Conal Platt saw off a spirited Crewe team, who came desperately close to snatching a point.
