Conal Platt hit a stunning goal a minute from time to seal a 3-1 win for Liverpool's u18 side over Crewe at the Academy this morning. Charlie Barnett opened the scoring after just four minutes when he collected a pass from Platt and rifled a shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Minutes later Barnett almost had his second when he smashed a shot against the angle of post and bar from 20 yards. Despite creating plenty of chances, Liverpool had to wait until 64 minutes to add to their lead. Substitute Ray Putterill had been on for the field only a few seconds when he swung in an inviting cross which Craig Lindfield finished from close range.
Crewe pulled a goal back five minutes later when the dangerous Maynard collected a sloppy pass from Jimmy Ryan and ran forty yards before beating Lancaster. The visitors almost levelled it up a minute from time following a corner, but were denied by the post. The reds broke immediately upfield, Burns found Putterill on the right, he fed Platt and he curled a wonderful shot into the top corner from just outside the box.
