Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

May be buying one, but have only been used to using Windows in the past. How are they to use in comparison to windows. Is Mac easier/harder to use?

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

Thanks mate.

A couple of questions.

firstly, I may get one for uni, and my concern is with the compatibility of software. If my uni uses Windows based systems and I'm running the Mac OS, could I run into difficulties - I confess I've got little knowledge of the compatibility between Macs and Windows

and secondly, how have you found their customer service when experiencing any problems?

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

They are a lot more compatible than they were at one time, but its worth checking, its very likely that the Uni will use windows and it will be up to you to ensure you the compatiblity options on your mac.

The resolution certainly is pretty on them though!

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

yeah I use an apple powerbook G4

You pay a little extra for apple products. If you have to liase with work and they use windows operating systems it can be a little difficult. If your just using it for photo, music, web, video and office its fine.

Windows documents open on Mac office no probs. Check out
www.computerwarehouse.co.uk

The top end Powerbook is now around £1500 £1600 and as of yet there are no G5 powerbook being released. When you see the clock speed of mac you can more or less add 1/3rd or even double it to get the speed advetised by pc's.

You pay a little more for the design and ease of use. Also Ive only ever had 3-4 virus's on my machine as theres only a handful written for the mac nothing to 70,000 written for PC's.

Also worth checkin out is an apple base station which will wireless your web connection and music, wireless mouse and keyboard. If you buy a G5 Desktop then just by a LCD monitor. I can recommed the CTX 19inch from dabs.com for £225.00 probably cheaper now.

Once you go mac you wont ever go back.

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

I work in IT using pcs and windows but my personal computer is an apple. They're more secure, stable and if you are doing any multi-media suff far superior.
Generally you'll have to get an apple version of Microsoft stuff eg word or excel or you could get the freeware software which is just as good but you will run into the odd compatability issue.
They are more expensive than pcs too
I haven't had any experience of the customer service side so can't comment on that

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

your uni will have a media dept with some geek in it who'll know everything you need to know or not know regarding servicing. Also it'll come with a years warranty and apple has a couple of stores in the UK (Regent St in London) with Genius bars in em. Basically people there who'll sort out any issues you have should it go tits up.

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

In terms of compatibility, is this sufficient for uni (assuming they're using a windows based system)?

Re: Anyone use 'Apple' computers?

yeah but what you wanna do is just buy the mac first. DONT buy any software. You can download all that for free and save yourself a bundle. Also people will have S/w at uni which you just copy.

Basically a windows word document emailed from a pc user to you on a mac will open in Mac office no fuckin problem and vise versa.

get a mac, start using Bit torrent software for downloads,

or go to

http://gottsilla.net/poisoned.php

tis the fuckin underground daddy of mac p2p. you only need Serial Box Software then for ANY code
