Liverpool 1 Leeds 1 (Premiership) Oct 13 2001

MATCH FACTS SCORER(S) DANNY MURPHY
HALF TIME 0-1
VENUE ANFIELD
DATE SAT 13 OCT 2001
STAR MAN JAMIE CARRAGHER / JOHN ARNE RIISE

Report by Dave Usher at Anfield

The reds drew 1-1 with Leeds, but who really cares? I know I don't. The only thing that is on my mind right now is the health of our leader. To be honest, at this point I'm not even bothered about what happens for the rest of the season, I just want Gerard to be okay. Something like this really puts things into perspective.
The news after the game that Gerard had been rushed to hospital was obviously a massive shock to us all, but maybe Gerard knew something wasn't right before the game. O'Leary's revelation afterwards that Gerard had been talking about how bad management is for your health sent shivers down my spine. Did Gerard know something was up, or was it merely a co-incidence?

On the subject of O'Leary, I've given the guy a lot of stick these past couple of years, but I've heard this morning that he's spent most of his time since the game at the hospital checking on his friend Gerard. Fair play to him, and I'll be cutting him a bit more slack in future.

I'm not going to write a match report for this game, because it just doesn't seem appropriate. I don't feel like writing one, and I daresay you don't really want to be reading one. All I'll say is that a draw was a fair result, we looked much better when Litmanen came on, Fowler did okay and is having no luck whatsoever at the moment, and Danny Mills proved once again that he is the most dirty, horrible, cheating, shithouse in a team full of dirty, horrible, cheating shithouses.

Everything is up in the air at the moment. It's clear that Gerard will be away from the club for several months, and it has to be questioned whether he will return at all. If there is any risk to his health, then he should not return, but all that is for the future, and it is wrong to be thinking about that now. The only thing that is important at this moment in time is that Gerard makes a full recovery. Whatever happens then is up to him. Whatever the future holds for him though, he'll never walk alone. God bless you GH, we're all with you. Get well soon.

TEAM: Jerzy Dudek; Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, Stephane Henchoz, John Arne Riise; Steven Gerrard, Gary McAllister (Jamie Redknapp), Danny Murphy (Nick Barmby) Vladimir Smicer; Robbie Fowler, Emile Heskey (Jari Litmanen):
