I think it was filmed around the toxteth Dingle area of the city. I have seen the dvd's myself I vaguely remember it when I was a kid. It was a great prog. Bernard Hill who played 'Yozzer' was brilliant. It summed up early 80's depression under Thatcher very well and mixed humour with sadness.

Along with Auf W Pet, that was a similar type of program, not meant to be a comedy but some funny bits in it.

Incredible if completely depressing series. Amazing to see how far the city has moved on since it was filmed. It's easy to forget what Thatcher and Liverpool's radical council did to the city.

It's also interesting to note that the actors who played the characters that have come to represent the unseemly side of the "scouser", Yosser and Loggo, were actually born in Manchester.
The actor who plays swanny is now a cab driver in Liverpool, and a sound fella by all accounts.

Not a programme to lighten the mood, particularly the concluding two episodes. I just hope Sammy Lee is a better coach than he is an actor.

Re: Boys From The Blackstuff?

The one where they went to work in Middlesborough to work on the side was CLASS it was the first ever episode I think a feature length one. The last one was really sad were Yozzer loses his kids. Gotta love Sammy Lee and his shit scared impression he gives haha.

don't know if your getting swanny mixed up with snowy there mate but if you are he's still an actor, had him in the back of my taxi about 12 months ago, nice fella, a bit thespian but i wont hold that against the guy.snowy was the one that took the high dive when the D.S.S. came snooping while they were working on the side.
