Goals: Voronin
Torres

Assists: Finnan

Man of the match: Torres

Reina - 5 Beaten 3 times. once carragher cleared off the line. Had to come way off his line twice and got away with it. poor distribution on occasion.

Finnan - 7 caught out a bit for the first but done well in trying to get us back into the game by taking the ball forward, had a shot on goal that robinson spilled and set up torres at the back post for the winner.

Carragher - 4 once is bad enough but twice is unforgiveable. it's a pity cos he had little else to do but twice didn't get close enough to keane who scored either side of the break.

Hyypia - 4 usually imperious in the air he was beaten twice by Berbatov to set up keane for the goals.

Arbeloa - 6 played alright didn't have much trouble from tainio.

Pennant - 6 Got in some crosses and looked are best threat. was surprised he was taken off instead of riise who was brutal.

Gerrard - 5 Good first half but anonymous in the second. good free kick spilled by robinson led to voronins goal and hit the post shortly after. blasted over in the second half and that was his only contribution after the break.

Mascherano - 6 gave the ball away a lot but kept going. didn't hide, always wanted the ball and went close with one effort saved at the near post and a drive from 30 odd yards.

Riise - 4 awful. offered nothing down the left and blasted over the top when he had time to do something.

Voronin - 5 done well to anticipate the rebound off robinson and went wild when he scored. done a lot of good tracking back and kept the ball well but cost us a victory with his indecision. thought he would have been confident enough to bury the pass from torres but instead set it up for Gerrard. 2 nil at that stage and it was game over.

Torres - 8 crucial goal. How important will that goal be if that is the end of our bad patch? great header at the death to get us a point and keep our unbeaten record. looked tired but created opportunities for himself and others.

subs:

Kuyt - 7 no pace down the right but got plenty of crosses in to dnagerous areas.

Babel - 6 played through the middle and was strong on the ball. had an effort went wide but looked a threat.

Benayoun - 6 created more in 10 mins than riise did all day.

Rafa - 6 We got the bit of luck to go ahead but couldn't kill the game off when Voronin inexplicably played the ball back to Gerrard when he'd only the keeper to beat. where is a decision like that coming from? safety first in all areas of the pitch even when you have a one on one?? thankfully the attack at last came to tyhe rescue of the defence who had a bit of a mare. often we've lost games when the defence have had a bad day. thank God for Torres, with him at the club we can be great again. it's been an awful period for us since the last international break. I would have thought we'd have taken 10 - 12 points from Portsmouth away, Brum at home, wigan away and spurs at home. instead we got 6 and in many respects we were lucky. the next three league games are massive: everton away, Arsenal at home and blackburn away. we're only six points behind arsenal but if we continue playing like we have been we'll be out of it following the next three games. That siad it was important we didn't lose after we went two one down and rafa made three attacking substitutes that helped us earn a draw we deserved.
