It is very hard to de-poncify wine because most of the lingo sounds amazingly poncy. When I was at catering college, I took the opportunity to study for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. It definitely helped my enjoyment but the same can be done through drinking loads of wine and noting down whether you like it or not and asking for advice in proper wine shops.
