Re: A return to terracing: the argument gets stronger
This is a very emotive subject for all of us and still divides us.
I wasn't at Hillsborough but I gave my ST voucher to somebody who was. I was so glad I made that decision.
Personally I would like nothing more to stand at Football Matches again in a proper controlled, safe environment.
True there where scary times on terraces. I was a kid going to away games etc and there where times when I got frightened by the sheer numbers of people packed in around me. I still maintain that the scariest I have felt was during the unbelievable atmosphere on a reduced Kop when we played Spartak Moscow in 92. I was in the middle and the arse fell out of my keks a few times until they scored.
The argument to say that terracing is unsafe is like saying planes aren't safe. If safety of the people contained within is the MAIN priority and the people in charge are competent then 99% of the time there will be no problem and with the money in football these days as opposed to back then then there shouldnt ever be an issue with this.
Look at the points below:
1. We all stood for 4 years or so after Hillsborough and nobody got seriously hurt then and that was on the old Spion Kop.
2. People stand at gigs both indoor and outdoor - why not the debate/argument there?
Unfortunately this argument, though vital, is redundant, particularly to us. I don't EVER forsee a time when we will be able to stand on a Terrace and watch our beloved Reds at home. I could see it maybe happening at other clubs but not us.
