But what I'm saying is that his track record for signing attacking players (including the odd "gem") is, while far from perfect, much better than any Liverpool manager's since Kenny. When he's sure about a player, he'll spend whatever it takes to get him. Hence £13m for Ronaldo (when we were trying to pay £4m), £30m for Rooney, £19m (I think) for The Horse and £35m for these two. Of course they could both fail, but I suspect at least one of them will fulfill his potential and become phenomenal. The same could obviously be true of our young lads, but I can't get the names Gonzalez, Pennant, Bellamy, Cisse, Le Tallec, Pongolle, etc, etc out of my head.
Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not writing our new lads off. In fact I'm really looking forward to seeing them play for us. However, I won't be overboard about them until I do.
