Setanta currently charge £14 for access to Scottish football, some European games, some rugby and the Irish Gaelic sports. I think that when they introduce English games they will be charging a lot more, especially having just paid the best part of £400m for the rights to these games.
Sky have just paid almost 50% more for less games than they currently have and will undoubtedly pass that onto their paying subscriber. With tickets often hard to come by, they've got you by the short and curlies if you want to follow your team. I can see myself watching the games on Setanta down the boozer, as I'd rather spend the money down the pub than hand over another £20 plus.
That Setanta deal will probably have a big effect in Ireland too, as I can't see them allowing RTE to show games anymore with them being an Irish company.
