This is the reaction of some of Chelsea's supporters taken Football 365.com:

Chelsea Fans Bite Back
I completely understand the Liverpool fans' happiness and delight at Gerrard staying at Liverpool. In the modern age it's lovely to see a footballer rejecting bucketloads of money and opting to stay where his roots are.

Besides, if Gerrard played anything like he did for most of Euro 2004 it would be a waste of £30 million (plus supposedly the superb Damien Duff and Scott Parker in exchange).

Saying that, if Liverpool finished 20-odd points behind the top three with Gerrard in the side last season, no wonder they're relieved - dread to think what would have happened to them if he had left!

...As a born-and-bred Chelsea fan I feel I must throw my hat into the ring regarding the inbred Scouse retards who are constantly getting their letters printed in your column.

Firstly, 'Abramovich's publicity machine'? Eh? The only publicity Roman ever gets is from the hoards of journos' constant speculation about whether he's going to be thrown into a Russian gulag or some 'big name' player that we're going to sign/have put in an offer for.

Secondly, Liverpool have already stated that they've received no offer for Gerrard from Chelsea.

Lastly, we don't need Gerrard.

Gerrard is widely regarded by the media who love Liverpool and or played for them as the best thing since sliced bread because he's a scouser, one of the lads, a cheery Liverpudlian scamp. The fact that he's more one-footed than Long John Silver doesn't seem to enter into it.

With Dietmar Hamann imminently leaving the dead pool just watch little Stevie suffer, with no-one to tidy up his errors Gerrard will soon be shown up for what he is: AVERAGE.

You'll be snatching our hand off for ten bob for him at the end of next season.
Mark Kelly, Chelsea supporter absolutely pig-sick at the anti-CFC media's constant griping

...Ahhh, 'Pool fans, you've got to love 'em! Whining and moaning one second then telling the world that they are greatest (if 30 points behind Arsenal last year is considered 'the greatest'?)

Well good for Stevie G - it IS nice to see loyalty in the game - and that's exactly why he stayed put - not because he hates Chelsea or thinks they aren't going to win anything as the legions of Liverpool fans are now claiming. It was just good, old-fashioned loyalty. As I wrote in when that w**ker/fan wrote his 'song' about Gerrard - if he did move after being a fan all his life, being a schoolboy apprentice, player, ambassador etc etc - has he not shown enough loyalty and earned that right? Get a bloody grip!

The other thing I love is the anti-Chelsea comments! I'd love to see reactions if the shoe was on the other foot. Do we (and yes, I'm a Chelsea fan) have oodles of money? Yes. Are we interested in the best players? Of course. Which team isn't?? Have we been embarrassed, as one idiot Liverpool fan claims, by five 'rejections' this year?? Uh, no! If this little scouser wants to believe every tabloid report as to who we're trying to buy we'd be 'embarrassed' every day of the year when it eventually doesn't come true. Jealousy has reared it's head and I hope we win something just to p*** off the hoards of haters out there!

I love the double standards - ManYoo can spend more on one player (Ferdinand) than we did on three (Geremi, Johnson, Bridge) despite unlimited funds and yet we're the ones 'destroying' football. Let us remember that every time we buy a player the other team gets money. This in turn pays wages, buys players etc. and the cycle continues.

Roman looked at six other Premiership clubs and picked us because of a loyal fan-base, good team structure (Champions League qualification with no money in the bank) and a long history. To him it was good business sense. As it obviously is for the Thai P.M. and Liverpool. Same scenario, fellas, just a lot less money!

Good luck, Gerrard - I too hope Liverpool have a good year - it'll be good for football - but if they don't I'll just laugh at all those poor old scousers crying into their beer.

...It amuses me to hear all these Liverpool fans going on about how Liverpool are a bigger club than Chelsea and that is why Gerrard has stayed at Anfield. But let's be honest, the reason he stayed at Liverpool is because he is a Liverpool fan who obviously doesn’t have a great desire to win the title. If Gerrard had come to Chelsea it would have increased our chances of winning the Premiership quite substantially but as it stands, we still have a good chance anyway, unlike Liverpool who will again be battling for fourth spot with Newcastle.

If Gerrard stays at Liverpool for his entire career he will become another of the Shearer and Le Tissier mould; great players, great loyalty, no trophies. Okay, Shearer won one title at Blackburn but how many would he have won had he chosen to go to Man Utd? The same goes for Gazza when he turned them down. Look what happened to him.

Still, another mediocre season, finishing fourth place at best will perhaps force Stevie to reconsider. As for the whole 'big club' issue, why do these teams keep living in the past? Liverpool WERE a big club, as were Everton as were Leeds and Preston. I prefer to live in the present.
Paul Watson

...To the delighted Reds, desperate to slag off Chelsea FC, get a life. You are just jealous that your once famous team is a shadow of it's former self, with virtually no chance of rising above the mediocrity your club now exudes. You may have been the past, but we are definately of the future my little scouser chums.

You lot bang on about your history but you are living in dream land. The fact is you were poor last season, as you have been for most of the last decade. Yes you won three trophies a few years back, but none that really count (and before you start I am happy to concede that we've not won much either).

You are the Man Utd of old except no-one hates you, they just don't care! So, we fancy nicking your best player (by a country mile), so what? What the hell is wrong with wanting to improve your team? (and Gerard is the only Liverpool player who could add anything to Chelsea). Anyway, just watch it or Roman will have a word with some of his contacts......
Adam Tobias, Chelsea fan and loving it!

...Having read the articles posted about the Steven Gerrard transfer speculation I felt the need to defend my club. I have supported Chelsea for 30 years and I'm the first to admit we aren't in the same league as Liverpool, Man U, Arse etc on the success front. But what I can't understand is why we are so vilified for trying!

For the first time in ages the Premiership duopoly has been split up (do we want to end up like Scotland?). This is because we have tried to buy in good players to compete with the best, do we really want another season of those smug gooners not losing? I would love to see Liverpool strong again, but like themselves, Man U and Arsenal, Chelsea have to start somewhere, success wasn't always a given for these clubs - what about Burnley, Wolves etc.

I'm the first to say that the way we go about things isn't the best, but don't lay the blame just at our door - the press and Liverpool FC have had a hand in the Gerrard debacle. I for one actually didn't want Gerrard, I'd rather give Parker a go. However I certainly don't blame my club for trying to better themselves, perhaps LFC supporters might give that some thought when Man U lift the Premiership title next season.

P.S. I think we do feature somewhere in the top ten most succesful clubs ever - not bad out of about 100.
