It's possible your ISP might have blocked the port you're trying to connect on, or if you're using a firewall then that might be blocking it too.
Goto:
Options/Preferences/Connection and click on "Random Port" and see if that helps.
If it's a firewall thing, make sure you open the correct ports for it to connect.
