Same here. I enjoyed the latter half of the film and the ending a lot more on a second viewing as you can keep up with the pace a bit more.
One thing that also got me thinking was how did the Joker know that kidnapping Rachael would push Batmans buttons? He doesn't know Batman is Bruce Wayne so how would he know there was an emotional attachment there.
Also Batman's reaction upon finding out that she had been kidnapped would have been a give away to Gordon and the other cops as to his real identity would it not?

I thought the Joker knew that Batman would react because of how he reacted when saving Rachel at the party.
All Gordon and the cops would assume is Batman is someone who knows Rachel, that would not bring them to Bruce Wayne as everyone believes he is a playboy layabout who could never be Batman.
