Despite my earlier point about the irrelevance of the book being about Clough, I did enjoy the revelation/speculation behind why he always wore a green sweat-shirt. Peace describes a scene whereby Clough discovers that Revie thought the colour green was a bad omen, and henceforth made a point of wearing it on match days.
