The law, since 2001, is that we have to win a cup in either a more difficult or inexplicable manner (i.e. it has to be a bigger occasion) than the most recent time we won it, otherwise it won't happen . For example -

Arsenal Charity Shield (02) < Man U Charity Shield (01) = Lost

Chelsea Charity Shield (06) > Man U Charity Shield (01) = Won
(This could possibly be the anomolie, but I reckon the Chelsea 06 was a bigger occasion than the United 01, because in 06 people thought that it was gonna be either us or Chelsea for the league that season and the game was being built up as 'an early psychlogical test' - even though that turned out total bullshit).


Birmingham League Cup Win (01) > Bolton League Cup Win (94) = Won

Man U League Cup (03) > Birmingham League Cup (01) = Won

Chelsea League Cup (05) < Man U League Cup (03) = Lost


Alaves UEFA Cup (01) > Club Brugge UEFA Cup (76) = Won


Arsenal F.A Cup (01) > Sunderland F.A Cup (92) = Won

West Ham F.A Cup (06) > Arsenal F.A Cup (01) = Won


AC Milan European Cup (05) > Roma European Cup (84) = Won

I reckon if we beat 3 English teams, including Man U in the final, it'll be a bigger occasion than Istanbul.
