Some really misplaced "superfan" stuff on this thread.

Look, we are all Liverpool fans here. The common denominator in our passion IS the club.

Most of our players did not grow up as Liverpool fans. Yes, now they are here - they have (I hope and trust) developed strong bonds with the fans, and what this club (sans current owners) stands for. However, the nature of their allegience is still different. Its personal, formed during active working relationships.

You can't compare the two. Its certainly natural that players would form a strong bond to a person (the manager), while the fans overriding bond would be with the club and the shirt.
