hmm...I haven't looked yet Nick, but found this much more detailed step by step guide on doing it which you will need:

You basically need a
Notebook SATA Hard Drive that runs at 5400 rpm (thats the speed of the existing PS3 drive, its assumed the PS3 firmware doesn't support faster drives). As for size, the author of the tutorial used 160Gb.
