Re: GG on the radio in Canada
I thought it was an excellent and revealing interview. Well worth a listen.
He started out by talking about how things were going with the team, and he seemed to talk reasonably knowledgeably, talking about the Mascherano red card and the strict referee.
He mentioned that they received up to 2000 emails a week, with 95% directed at Hicks and 5% at both. The ones about Hicks were to urge not to sell to him. The ones to both were along the lines of 'get out of our club'.
Gillett did mention threatening phone calls and emails, but he also mentioned supportive emails, including an invitation to the pubs to have a drink with the fans, learn the songs etc. He said that he and Foster were coming over for the Arsenal game, and he also confirmed, beyond any shadow of doubt, that the partnership with Hicks was over. He said it had been for some time.
The one intriguing thing was that he said it might be time to think about buying the club, since Hicks 'couldn't get over the finish line' to buy him out. It's hard to know how serious a proposition this is. In all likelihood he is just saying this as a tit-for-tat move back at Hicks.
Gillett spoke very highly of DIC whenever they were mentioned. I think he had a few genuine regrets that the past year has been such a shambles and the owners were not able to deliver what the fans wanted/deserved.
