Well, he's made it back as far as playing for England - which is more than Pennant's done.
I just get a weird feeling of deja vu when it comes to Bentley, because exactly the same arguments were made in the summer of 2003 when Joe Cole was going to leave West Ham. At that point, he was a "good but not good enough" player who was never going to succeed at a top level club - and instead we bought the "proven" "edge of your seat" international superstar Harry Kewell.
Five years later, who got the better buy, us or Chelsea?
